DESERT SOPHISTICATION — KIA MOHAVE Review for Off-Road
Long-term review of the Kia Mohave (HM) as a desert driving vehicle after 18 months with DO: **The Good:** - Body-on-frame construction — proper 4x4 credentials - 3.0L diesel V6 has excellent low-end torque for dunes - Transfer case with proper low range - Better approach/departure angles than most SUVs - Surprisingly capable stock — ran newbie and fewbie trips with no modifications **The Not-So-Good:** - Spare parts availability in UAE is difficult - No Terrain Response system (unlike Defender/GX) - Ground clearance is slightly lower than GX 460 competitors - The electronic traction control can be intrusive — needs disabling for proper sand driving **Modifications Made:** - BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrains - ARB Old Man Emu suspension lift (40mm) - Snorkel - Rock sliders **Verdict:** Hugely underrated as a desert vehicle. Excellent value if you can source parts. Would recommend for DO newbies looking for a capable vehicle on a budget.
