Save the Camels – Desert Clean Up Campaign

Some of you may not be aware that hundreds of camels die every year as a result of campers leaving mountains of rubbish behind. I won’t get too technical on you (if nothing else its very unpleasant) but basically the camel comes along and eats not only the left over food, but the plastic bags that usually surround it. This bag calcifies in the stomach and basically turns to stone, which eventually kills them. :'(

Dr Ulli, a leading Veterinarian specialising in these beautiful animals discovered the horrific issue and it is his expertise that we wish to support with our man power.

There is a specific area of the Desert (Madam, about 30km up the Hatta/Oman road) that is particularly affected by rubbish tippers and the idea that we have had is to put together a huge team of people (maybe 200 – 300 people) to go and clean it up once and for all, and approach the municipality and ask for their assistance to then keep it that way.

As yet I do not have a date in mind for this event but obviously sooner rather than later, and before it gets too hot.

By joining the group I can determine the interest in this project and then communicate updates on when, where and what the precise activity will be nearer the time. Anyone is welcome to participate. If at anytime you become unavailable then you can simply remove yourself from the event.

Please note that to keep the event live on the FB system I may have to keep postponing the dates, however once it is 100% confirmed, then the date will be announced via email.

Most likely there will be media coverage, therefore if there is any company that would like to get involved to support the project, I would love to hear from you. With support from scompany we could turn it into a really nice day out for everyone.

The date for the first Desert Clean Up has now been set for the 27th March 2009 and will in held in Al Awir from approximately 8am to 11am.

After reviewing many sites, we have decided to employ a different strategy to this project and instead of holding one mass clean up day, we have decided to schedule many throughout the year in different locations each time.

For this first event we will confirm volunteers on a first come first confirmed basis. Therefore, if you are available on the above date and time, please copy and paste the below questionnaire onto a regular email, answer the questions and send it to: [email protected]

    Full Name :
    Telephone Number :
    Total in your group :
