Thank you Bahaa and Martin for your drive reports on the intermediate convoy. Nice to know you guys had fun. :ymhug:

We started off from Tawi Nazwa where a huge convoy of about 56 cars had gathered. I was leading the intermediate convoy supported by Faheem, Joe & Baher at sweep support.

Bahaa was my second lead and did an amazing job following my lines and keeping the convoy moving. :yesss:

We decided to get our little band of sand warriors together quickly and depart the chaos for calmer surroundings to give the drive briefing. We had 3 fewbies in the convoy (Ayman, Martin & JP) and so we started off slow.

Straight off the bat we headed up a steep dune where Badboy decided he did not like a camp fence and decided to try to run it over. After the little argument with the fence we were off again and the side cresting began. I was very impressed with all our fewbies who were thrown in the deep end albeit on safe small crests. The learning began and of course was followed quickly by a series of stucks. These were dealt with quickly by the boys at the back seamlessly pealing our fewbies off the crests. After a few more explanations on side cresting and some more practice as we progressed towards Badayer everyone was driving well and the convoy flowing nicely.

We crossed over the road towards Pink Rocks where we entered some larger dunes. Fun was had here climbing and cresting the bowls. The main challenge being the other convoys in the area and the large snake processions of the safari guys. We found a nice area of sand which was relatively untouched and the guys showed great skills following my track climbing and cresting the shapr ridges. We then moved to pink rocks where we had a brief break before continuing the journey to Faya air station (2nd December as some call it).

Thank you all for your company and laughter during the drive. And a special thank you to Faheem, Joe & Baher who kept our convoy moving. :thanks:

See you all soon for some more weekend fun. :ymparty:

My first :drive: with my family , we had lots of fun start to end πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ :ymparty: :ymparty:

We reached early at the meeting point and could see each of members reaching there. In few minutes time we were almost 50+ cars ready to :drive: . Well organised to handle such huge numbers, convey list was printed and Marshals were ready with their team by 3 to start the drive ..

I was driving with Duncan as lead, Faheem, Joe & Bahar was supporting. :thanks: to Duncan, Faheem, Joe and Bahar for such a wonderful lead and support. Drive was mostly on crests , very technical and challenging, finally some huge dunes πŸ˜€ :D. Me and family enjoyed every bit of it. Now I am much more relaxed since my future drives are more easy to convince πŸ˜€ :D.

Our team was rocking and every body did very well. It was a busy day in desert and couple of time we had to slow down because of other traffic !! We also met another DO convey , it was like DO is ruling the desert yesterday, proud movement for DO πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

It’s always nice to hit the sand after a gap. Seeing 55 – 60 cars at Tawi was indeed a great sight. Even better was meeting up with some old friends amongst the many new faces.

Ahmad bhai took off his convoy of 12 cars and we entered the dunes from the opposite side of the road. Vinay, Neville and Burzis in their 3 Pajero’s very absolute first timers in the sand and drove quite well. 10 meters into the drive and we had our first two stucks simultaneously just a few meters apart. Lesson 1 learnt – always remember to engage your 4 wheel drive when you enter the sand. The other stuck was more of a mechanical issue with the Jeep and Asem kindly went off to escort the Jeep out to safety on to the black top.

Ahmad continued the drive with the remaining cars and Sasha and myself assisted with the sweep, recoveries and guidance wherever required, and were later joined in by Asem as soon as he returned. We had a few minor stucks along the way and a few second and third tries. A few of the crestings needed to be pulled out but mostly all were able to get out of the situation on their own with a few pointers. By and large a very peaceful relaxing drive where we could enjoy the drizzle of the rain. Just what the doctor ordered for this awesome weather.

As we hit sunset, a few of the cars parted ways whereas a few of us went in to the campsite to enjoy a nice dinner. We had a few tables allocated to us courtesy Ahmad bhai. While the marshals were busy in their meeting the rest of us enjoyed the snacks, dinner, drinks, dances, drizzle and most importantly the company of people around. As the camp wound up, a few of us, Yasir, Vijay, Romie, Shihan, Chris and myself made our way out from the campsite to inflate. Said our farewells and off we went.

Jonsi – At second lead in his red 2 door pajero was driving really well.
Satish – Following him in his LC with his son also drove well.
Shihan / Ru-mey – Both you guys drove like pros at the rear. Loved the fact that both of you had your flags and radios.
Vinay – First time on the sand and what he lacked in experience he made up in determination.
Neville – Another first timer on the sand and enjoyed the dunes with his family.
Burzis – Again another first timer on the sand and had a good time with his family.
All the 3 pajeros drove well and were always willing to listen to pointers. Hope the radios are all sorted out soon.

Ahmad bhai / Sasha / Asem – lovely driving with you guys. Thanks for a great time. Until next time.
