Bodies found after one-month search in a 140,000 sqkm uninhabitable area of desert.

Saudi desert rangers finally found the bodies of three local men who went missing nearly a month ago in the Empty Quarter desert while on their way home from the UAE, a newspaper in the Gulf Kingdom said on Wednesday.

More than 140 land police patrols have taken part in the search operation which also involved helicopters and reconnaissance planes in an area covering over 140,000 square km, nearly double the UAE’s size.

The three unnamed men had crossed Albataha border point after visiting the UAE and headed for their homes nearly 600 km across the desert.

Relatives had reported the three men missing after they lost contact with them a day after they entered the Empty Quarter, the world’s most barren desert.

“We have been searching for them for nearly a month in coordination with the border guards in the UAE and Oman….they were all found dead as it was a difficult search given the rugged terrain and difficult topography of Rub Al Khali (Empty Quarter),” police spokesman in the eastern province Brigadier Mohammed Al Gamdi said, quoted by Arar newspaper.

Looks like a fake story to me… The decomposition of the bodies suggest that they were exposed for more than 1 month. Plus they are returning from a trip to the uae to their homes in KSA on a UAE registred car! It could be rented but it sounds wierd… Urban legend that’s my vote…

It is not fake & there are a number of incidents every year where people go missing in the empty quarter & later either their bodies are recovered or in a number of cases never discovered at all…

There are a number of missing connections in the story though…

There are a number of people involved in stealing high value vehicles from UAE & driving them across the desert to Saudi / Oman & onwards to Yemen…where they can then be sold to buyers anywhere in Africa or Asia…
Does it not look like a similar scenario…with three Saudi men driving a Dubai registered LX-570 across the Empty Quarters?

The only point to ponder is why were all 3 inside the car ? typically if a car becomes immobile in the desert either due to mechanical failure or getting stuck…the driver / passengers will leave the car & try to escape on foot…which incidently is a very big mistake…most of these people are found dead within a few kilometres of their vehicles typically due to dehydration.

These guys were inside the car…which may happen in case one stays inside the car…with the engine running & accidently inhaling Carbon Monoxide…with carbon monoxide poisoning…the human brain just switches off in stages…until the person dies…

There could be other scenarios as well involving human trafficking, which is quite prevalent through the empty Quarters…or simply murder by somebody who may have just left the scene after the gruesome deed…the desert would obviously eliminate most evidence within a few days.

Either way this is another reminder on how powerful nature is…and that it should never be taken for granted…and it re-inforces the First golden rule of Offroading again…Never venture into the wilderness alone!!!

The news is authentic…but these guys have been apparently missing for about 6 months ??? they went missing in May & the bodies were found in November !!!

That explains it… Told you that the decomposition doesn’t look like a 1 month one… The bodies have almost lost their hair!!
