Friends,
I am very much interested in desert rides but unfortunately met an accident this evening around 5.45pm on Emirates Road sharjah towards Dubai exactly near National paints round about and my car which took me in earlier rides on desert is totally damaged. Have to get police report from Senaya police station and left the car with garage. The garage guys after seeing the condition of the car informed that Insurance company may be interested in settling the car rather than repairing it. I will keep my fingers crossed and look for the outcome.
I am fine with little muscle sprain in the chest due to seat belt wearing and air bag shock.
Sorry I am posting this out of heart pinch that i will miss the desert ride.
I will search for some car operators who can rent the car for desert ride tomorrow. If successful, i will attend or have to miss this.

Very sorry to hear about this incident. Week end drives will keep coming and you can always join, but as a priority take care of your health which is more important.
Suggest not to go for rent a car for desert driving especially given the fact that you do not know the car. Secondly insurers do not allow desert driving and most of them exclude offroad and the deductibles ae also high.

I do back the advice of other senior members that it is not wise to take a Rent-A-Car for offroading, since it is meant only for passenger transport and not for adventure. Thereby offroad insurance coverage is not applicable for RAC owned vehicles. If anything goes wrong due to the unexpected nature of desert, it is going to cost you more than the fun!!! So please avoid it.
Having said so, in my knowledge there is a showroom in Sheikh Zayed Rd, Dubai, who provides desert vehicles on rental basis with insurance coverage. Ofcourse their charges are very high.
You will get more details at http://offroad-zone.com/ Years back I took their car once, and it was reasonably good. They were having in fleet at that time – Wrangler, FJ and LC with safety cage , metal bumpers, mountain tyres and skid plates. I am not sure whether the services are still available. You may please check with them and update.
