Has anyone driven to this mountain Jebel Al Jais in Ras Al Khaimah. It was mentioned in the paper today as having the lowest temperature recorded. Would like to visit the place and camp there if possible.
If some one has traveled here. please post some GPS co ordinates to reach the mountain.
Thanks for the excellent suggestion Stanley, in fact I too was contemplating the same, but, I would suggest that we postpone the camping trip till the current cold weather conditions give way to more moderate tempratures as the temprature on the mountain was almost zero a couple of days back.
Jebel Al Jais is one of the higher mountain tops in UAE, Jebel Yibir is still the highest…despite your skepticism 😮 😮 😮
There is a big Mountain resort project under development at Jebel Al Jais and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah recently inspected the progress on this road which is UAE’s highest road, this is accessible from RAK.
So yes let’s keep this pending as the current weather conditions are not really conducive to camping…

Believe me 0.9 or anything lower than even 10Celsius is verrrry verrrry cold…
Our New Year Party for this year was a casualty to the cold…as people who experienced the frigid conditions on Movie night totally boycotted the desert camping plan !!!
Even when the temprature probably did not dip below 12celsius or so…on the movie night…
Do not worry…We will do this as an overnight camping trip before the season is out.
That would be a great idea. Any idea how the road conditions are and is 4/4 a must?

FYI the top of Jais Mountain in Ras Al Khaimah has been covered with snow as the temperature dropped below zero degree Celsius
I am sure now that everybody will agree that the conditions are not conducive to Camping, currently 😉
Its always a good idea to visit wadis and mountains in smaller groups. Like sand there are no big open areas there to accommodate big number of vehicles. I’m a humble regular visitor of such places and this is my humble opinion.
Ahmed Bhai, It would be great if you could post the route of this place so that people could plan accordingly. Moreover if you have proper gear and are carrying wood then the current weather should not be a problem there.Cheers.

regrts for posting bit late on this topic as i m new member.i have been jabl e jais in jan.2012.
At the moment non of you should make plan for jabl e jais as it is no entry area.This is my recomendation.it is under construction and work is at full swing.you may face land sliding and unexpected movement of heavy machinry ,truck etc.I was there due to my personaal contacts.the place is wounderfull.i have been on the top.there is a shaikh palace too.it will be the best tourist spot when completetd.

Once the construction is completed this place will become a private road I guess just like Zigi beach, owing to the massive hotel project going on at the top.

At the workers camp shown on this link, there is a gate and normally they would not let you drive further. I was there last year with a sedan car.

You can drive to Jebel Al Jais from the East, from inside the Mussandam. Go to the track junction at N25 57.930 E56 11.861 amd follow it westwards. You’ll come to a point where you overlook the resort buildings.
Obvioulsy this requires a trek via the border formalities at Ad Dharah and Khasab; but worth it.
Is the road open for drive now…i heard theres a resort which was coming up there…is it open now…
