I am sorry Humayun. This drive was not preplanned. We just decided by 02:00 pm.

First of all I am sorry for the late post. Because it was not planned earlier and decided on the same time.

We had a rally style drive in the desert. We started the drive at 03:30 pm from Exit 3 with 3 cars. Actually we were testing a 120 series Prado 4.0L. Performance wise I start to like this car more than Nissan Patrol 4.8L. When we reached the top of Faya to my surprise we couldn’t see any vehicles playing around there. The area was deserted. After paying the homage to Nissan Bowl we reached on the road at 05:00 pm. Keeping in mind that we have enough time in hand then decided to continue to Badayer. The entire drive was without any stuck and fast. We played a little bit around Pink Rock and Big Red then headed towards the tarmac. We touched the road by 07:30 PM.

I think Kumar can put more in comparison for 120Series Prado 4.0L VS Nissan Patrol 4.8L

Thanseer – nice to know that you enjoyed the sand being on a break. We had the same route in the morning except the big red.

Yes, you are absolutely correct in your comparison of Prado 120 series 4.0L with Nissan Patrol. Technically I don’t know much to differentiate but on performance I will have a big mouth to talk about. Prado is absolutely a great vehicle for desert. I still love its calmness, hiding a beast underneath the hood. Its a light vehicle, high torque, good power and if you know how to handle it any challenge will be simple. It doesnt require much run-up or momentum. From idle point, it can make steep climbs.

Though the middle version does not have a differential lock, on low gear it gives almost equivalent effect of differential lock, may be by limited slip. I heard from many experts that an uplifted Prado will lose its natural balance and need to careful at side slopes. On drawback (with original suspension) is that the vehicle will jump alot being very light even at small sand humps giving the ride a bumpy effect.

On the other hand Patrol 4.8L is a beast having good power and a very heavy vehicle having good balance. It moves on very high RPM and therefore requires the correct approach and momentum. Or else its power is of no use. If it get struck, may be due to its body weight and lack of differential lock, self recovery is a tough task, may be only for the experts. Therefore needs to be careful while taking it to areas where it is difficult to build up momentum. However the power it has is amazing. The engine never dies off while making difficult climbs, even at the last moment it will keep firing from all cylinders giving its driver the confidence to attempt.

I will say both these cars the best in offroading business and if I am asked to chose one, no doubt I will go for Prado 120 series 4.0L ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanseer you will not regret if you consider a good Prado 120 series 4.0L instead of your dream model of Patrol 4.8L with very specific features :-BD :-BD :-BD

Yes Kumar, now I am seriously thinking about it.

From inside the Nissan Bowl this car climbed straight up, from down without any run-up on same direction of how we pulled out my Patrol. Now the height of this Bowl has been increased.

Salim Bhai, I will be highly appreciated, sharing your experience with your 120 series, also input from Ahmed Bhai.

There is no doubt that Prado 120 Series is a very capable car, both on & off Road…Quiet, dignified and good looking…just how I like my ladies to be!!!
It is just as unpredictable too…and does tend to behave unexpectedly due to a more acute height to width ratio…which is made even worse by people like us by suspension upgrades.

The Patrol is, however, more like us…you do not need to test the power…The presence and stance itself is awe inspiring …and it has the grunt and the low down torque required for long climbs on Liwa-esque dunes…

I however, do not see the point comparing a Patrol to a Prado…a Landcruiser to Patrol comparison would probably be on a more even keel.

and then…as all my friends know…what would my preference be!!!
