Memo from UAE Defense Ministry
UAE – The Defence Ministry has advised all the car owners in the UAE not to fill the fuel tank full, because for the next few weeks temperature will shoot upto 53-54 degrees and thus can cause the fuel tank to burst. Please pass this message to one and all and offcourse to your nearest and dearest ones as all of us here are habitual of filling our car tanks full.
Prevention is better than cure.
Fuel Tank in our vehicles is fitted with a valve which can release/discharge the high pressure built inside the tank due to high temp or whatever reason. So I don’t think so there is the possibilities of Burst.
This is just a rumor, which gained popularity during last week :-@
As Thanseer correctly pointed out, there is no possibility of fuel tank getting busted in the said manner. Usually the constant movement of fuel within the tank, builds pressure inside the tank as it tends to vaporize into a gaseous state. Also the friction due to constant movement generates a mild static electricity, which gets discharged by the vehicle body / battery earthing.
Excess pressure gets released through the fuel tank value and pressure below the threshold limit remains within the tank itself to minimize the fuel wastage through vaporization. This is due to the same reason, why you feel the gas gushing out of the fuel tank, when you open the tank lid.
If the below warning was correct, my car tank would have blasted couple of times during last summer 😉
