Hi Guys,
My Friends and I intend to drive down to Salalah for the Khareef Festival during the last week of July, between 31/07/2008 to 03/08/2008
If anyone has plans to visit the area / festival during the said period then please do let me know so we can arrange it and travel as a convoy.
Just letting you all know that during the Khareef Festival season, getting Hotel accommodation is very very difficult, in fact impossible; but early hotel bookings and early payments can avoid disappointment and results in savings for you from peak rents!!! Below are some recommendations:
Β· Haffa House – . Tel: 0096823295444
Β· Dohfar Hotel – 3*.
Β· Hamilton Plaza-4*
Β· Hilton -5*
Alternatively, some people like to take a villa and stay; but you would need to have some contacts. If you can manage then please go ahead.
Tentative itinerary:
β’ ETD: 03:00 Hrs (early morning) – recommended.
β’ 1 day β allocated for onward journey.
β’ 2 days for site seeing.
β’ 1 day β allocated for return journey. The route is pretty simple. Dxb-Al Ain β Mezyad Border β Ibri βtake new bypass to avoid Adam β some small towns β Hayma β Thumyrait β Salalah. Route no:31
The approximate distance is 1200-1250kms from Dubai.Reaching the destination, safely, by approximately 6 – 7 pm in the evening will be possible with a prior good nightβs sleep which will result in good awareness while driving, with an average speed between 120-140 km / hr and averagely 10-15 min stops at every petrol station during the way. Please make sure that all vehicles used should be in its best condition and the driver should be on full alert.
So guys, if you have any plans to join us then please do let me know; upon reaching Salalah you can have your own agenda planned!
The above dates are confirmed so accordingly you can plan your annual vacation schedule.

Actually the Monsoons hit the southern part of Oman in July & August, It transforms the desert & the mountain into a riot of greenery, with mists forming on the mountains…it is beautiful.
Oman tourism have started a Khareef festival & there are some cultural shows & the normal works…
Camping may have been a good option, if this was not a 4 day affair, my recommendation is to book a Hotel, or it will get too tiring, besides this will be good opportunity to take the family out…so again camping may not be an option.
Hotels are overbooked during that time, so early bookings are recommended.Hello everyone,
I just came back from vacations in Canada / USA and will remain in jet lag for a few days. Its gonna be tough for me to go for another week just now. I have a question… what sort of a festivals is this? as in festivals it is very very crowded and u really dont get a chance to c much, moreover the prices for everything r higher than normal. Can v do it end of august as I heard that, the area is beautiful during that time  ?Cheers!!
