At the beginning allow me to thank DO for announcing the new Manual and structure which we have awaited for since long time.
After reading the manual and the new structure I would like to open a positive and constructive discussion about the contents of the manual and whatever suggestions that may come from all active club members.
Point 1…. It is the inconsistency of the club name. All we know that the name of the club has been changed from DO to DO/ME and the new club structure has only DO logo. IS ME still onboard? Why we didn’t see them active in DO trips and activities other than one trip? Why ME respected members are not participating in the club web activities? We were happy to know that ME club members became an integral part of DO but in reality it is not showing.
My humble opinion says that our club should have one name and one logo rather than two names with two logos. It can be DO club or ME club but we have to agree on unifying the name and the logo.Point 2… We all know that Mr. Ahmad Perves is the club founder and I believe it would have been much more professional if we have announced the core team management in the same announcement of the manual. In general during any major change or restructuring process it is important to announce the core management team along with the new club structure.
Point 3… I think it will be more adequate if we maintain the grading system to be consistent. In the manual it is clearly identified that the Newbie has no star and the Fewbee has one star and the Intermediate has two stars and the advance level has between three stars to five stars.
First of all I would like to draw the attention of the club management that we missed to include the club member into our new structure. ( A member is anyone who registered in the club and didn’t participate in any drive organized by DO).
Secondly I strongly recommend that any member participates in any two consecutive drives will be classified as a newbie with one star.
Fewbee with Two stars
Intermediate with Three Stars
Advance with Four StarsHere it is important to mention that any advance member who is willing to continue being part of other club activities will not be able to get any further promotion and will keep his rank as an advance member provided that he is not doing any activities forming any conflict of interest.
At the same time any advance member who is showing a real commitment to the club and being only participating in our club activities and willing to take more responsibilities to render free services for the club members and club benefits will be eligible to become and Explorer with five stars and automatically will be eligible for future upgrades and promotions like becoming a ranger, marshal, and or part of core management team.
As a nonprofit organization it is extremely important to identify the following as part of the club manual.
1. Club Moto (Tagline) with explanation
2. Club Vision and Mission StatementOne last point to consider is a suggestion to change the logo of the Marshals rank from a strap style to something else has more creative design.
Thanks for DO again and I urge all members to be very constructive towards what has been discussed and to be creative in their feedbacks and suggestions.I hereby urge the management to accelerate the process of finalizing the due promotions and upgrades for all members who really deserves the recognition which became overdue.
Well done Folks and lets move forward. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
Best Regards
Well said…. This is the time where the club is getting refined to a perfect shape & forming new policies & procedures. May be we can discuss the policy/manual in a wiki style to finalize among the active participants as some may have greater idea & experience in policy making, So the inputs can be valuable and will not miss anything…..
BTW…We would like to meet the MEO Team..& like to drive with them & share experiences..

Please bear with us as changes are implemented.

Dubai offroaders is a more apt name than ME offroaders and the same will be retained. There are too many quotes to included in this post, so I’ll limit myself to this simple observation, DO is a much more apt title for this organisation than the somewhat clumsy DOME. It is a voluntary organisation that is built on the principle of being a coalition of the willing. Democratic ideology is not always the most efficient or perhaps even desired mechanism to use when running a free association of souls.
Only those intimately involved back in 2008 clearly understand the personal commitments to each other that seem to have made the Late 2012 exchange of words and clash of philosophy a somewhat bitter tasting wine.
Time to move on, MEO is a FB group open to any Driver, DO or other, that wishes to contact them.
Lets get on with developing drivers, all the way up the scale, so that we have clear levels of driver involvement and resources to meet those developing demands so that, for example, an Intermediate drive is just that and not a Fewbie+ for whatever the reason :YMBRINGITON:
I agree to a point with the nice idea of moving at the pace of the weakest, however I also ascribe to the principle of survival of the fittest. Neither of these viewpoints undermines the DO ‘Tag line’ of: ‘Just for Fun’ or partial mission statement: ‘we all go in together and we all come out together’. It does require commitment from drive paticipants and drive leaders
Forcible a voluntary organisation of this nature grows organically and the time tested guiding principle of Trial & Error will, if actively managed, produce a workable framework were we all, members or Marshall’s, jump into our rides with a smile on our lips and head out for a :drive: JUST FOR FUN
The latter doesn’t mean that it won’t be challenging, neither does it guarantee that you’ll return home with the same smile on your face, that is mostly down to you

It was once said that “Democratic” decision making is a means for finding and implementing the will of the majority; it has no other function. It serves, not to encourage diversity, but to prevent it.
April 3, 2013 at 3:38 pm #25186At the outset I place on record my appreciation for having brought out such a comprehensive manual .
Thanks to all those behind the curtain in bringing out this. This is no less than any SOP in any MNC ! :ymapplause:Observation:
1. The chain of command and span of control has been very clearly defined and in my humble opinion almost all the areas of operations have been well defined.
2. If I may say so , the redressal system could have also been little bit more clearer.( Like, the decision of the CMT/TFT… is final. If in extreme situations, what is the recourse)
3.Many of us joined this “club” as members, only to find that over the period of time we have one more family of like minded souls. In a way this has now become an integral part of our lives and I am sure, like we do in most of our families, defer to the “elders” .
Therefore, I am glad that this family of ours is in the safest of safe hands and with an outlook for the welfare of every one. The common good is what must be seen and minor hiccups ,if God forbid, must be resolved ASAP taking into confidence the seniors.Wish list
1. I strongly opine that DO name and logo must be retained
2. As the vision of Optimus Prime , “just for fun” must prevail not just in letters but in full spirit , across everything we indulge in. Trivial things must not be let come in the way.
3. Once in a month,if a family outing drive could be organised, it will be a booster for us and also will help pass on the passion to our kids as well(Whether they wish to pursue that will be their choice 🙂 )
4.@ Hamza : Can these postings of GK can be made into one pdf file and be accessible for viewing only in some part of the site ?On a lighter note, the briefing time of half an hour to one hour for beginners drive seems just too much. :ymdevil:
Two more things that I would like to add:
1. Limit the number of cars per convoy within each and every trip depending on the drive type such as for example
Newbie convoy should be limited to 7 cars including sweep and excluding the Marshal and Sweep in Charge
Fewbee convoy should be limited to 12 cars excluding the Marshal and Sweep in Charge
Intermediate convoy should be limited to 10 cars excluding the Marshal and Sweep in Charge
Advance Extreme convoy should be limited to 6 cars excluding the Marshal and Sweep in Charge2. Appointment of official safety officer/officers responsible to check and inspect that each driver is carrying the minimum required offroad tools and to keep an eye on all drivers to ensure that all drivers are putting the seat belt throughout the drive
3. In case a new member joining the club and he is claiming that he is an experienced offroader and has the willing to join the club and be active in club events then the TFT will be responsible to evaluate member capabilities and suggest the appropriate rank subject to the approval process declared in the manual.
I also value Sundar suggestion to organize a family outing drive from time to time which could be every 4-6 weeks.
Best Regards,
April 4, 2013 at 5:34 am #25206Thanks for your inputs Musbah Bhai, Brian Bhai, Razik & Sundar.
We have taken note of these suggestions and these will be discussed within the Task Force Team and if approved may be implemented over a period of time. -
