Fast Paced Drive Al Khatam to Al Badayer on 31st May 2013.

Wise Call by Lead marshal to delay the start time by an hour from last week, it’ll be slightly less hot by 4:00pm
I’m glad to see a similar drive to the last week’s one, which I had to quit right at the deflation point 🙁 My radiator/AC fan got broken on the way to the meeting point, resulted some crazy shaking in the whole car, since part of the broken fan was touching other parts under the hood . We have improvised a temporary solution (Thanks Denis & Razik! :ymhug: ) by disconnecting and removing the whole fan (fortunately just 2 bolts 🙂 ) but after that my coolant temperature started to increase drastically. Did not want to take the risk to attend the drive without fan,proper cooling, and AC; considering personal safety, the car’s health, and the possible impact on the fellow drivers, if the car stops in the middle of desert.
Managed to drive home safely without major overheating with couple of stops and “cool-downs”…
The new fan is on the way, hopefully fixing will be done during the week so I will try my luck again this Friday 🙂

Hi guys!
Been a long time since our drive together around fossil rock,
after the serious damage to the vehicle, and a slight depression,
would like to join in again for the drive.
BUT THE SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS
The leads and marshals, please put in your comments
only choice of cars for the time being are
1. 2008 Chevrolet Captiva, V6-3200cc AWD, auto gears, auto 4WD mode, manual traction control, manual diff control
2. 2013 Kia Sorento, V6-3500cc AWD, auto gears, auto 4WD mode, manual traction (lost the radiator, front bumper, bottom shield during last trip)Would my inclusion in the drive again cause difficulties to fellow persons,
and then the weather is not on our side either, as prefer to keep the a/c off during drives to give max power to the wheels

What an interesting drive or I could also call it an ‘event’ that we had yesterday; right from the beginning at the meeting point through to the very end, there was something happening.
Happy for all attendees and happier that all ended safely, it is just for fun………………
It was an excellent drive yesterday with 20+ cars in 2 convoys…and we had an exciting, nail biting rescue too…which was successfully accomplished by David and his Gargantuan Armada!!!
Thanks to Humayoo’n for leading the Newbie Convoy and for Shridhar and Zarir to support him.
Thanks to Saif for leading the intermediate Convoy with Razik’s, Feroz’s and Matthew…along with Paul for support!!!

I concur with David, was indeed and interesting event filled outing yesterday.
One nail biting recovery, indeed well executed by the repetitive efforts of the mammoth Armanda.
3 Pop-outs, fixed in a short span of time.
A few recoveries……kudos to Razik, Firoz & Mathews for their supportBig Thanks to our veteran’s Humayun & Sridhar for leading the newbie convoy with their contrasting styles of driving, and Zarir for supporting them.
Well done to all drivers in both convoys for making it a exciting fun filled afternoon. Look forward to see you again on our next trip.

It was a handsome turnout considering the fact that we are well and truly into the summer season in the UAE :-BD . The group was split into two convoys with Humayun’s surprise turn as the leader of the newbie convoy ably supported by Zarir and Sridhara. The Intermediate convoy was led by the founder himself with Saif, Razik and Firoz for support and Sanjay with shotgun Paul as the second lead.
Out we rolled into the hot desert landscape. A newbie had crashed the intermediate convoy and was soon found out :-O . It took some time to recover him and shift him to the newbie convoy causing us some delay which we didn’t mind as the Devil’s plunge offers some stunning scenery to behold 😀 .
We got rolling again and had a couple of pop-outs which were taken care off by the pop-out experts, Sanjay and Paul. It wasn’t too long before Sanjay literally found himself caught between a rock and a hard place :-S . The recovery was quite exciting to witness and was performed admirably by David’s giant with the assistance of senior members #:-S .
It was also good to notice that inspite of it being so hot during the peak noon time, the “feels like” attribute past 4:30 p.m. is quite pleasant .
All in all it was a nice drive and we inflated a little before sunset and bid adieu to each other.
Thank you all the marshals and sweeps for another day spent in the serenity of the desert landscape. :thanks:
