Learner’s Drive on Friday the 28th of Feb. 2014.
Day and date : Friday, the 28th of February ‘2014
Drive Type : Learner’s Drive in the soft tricky Sand Dunes of Al Aweer, followed by a BBQ in one of the camps in the area.

Drive Route: Al Aweer Area.
Drive Terrain: Nice picturesque Dunes and Tracks.
Duration: 3:30 hours, 210 minutes approx.
Drive ends at Sundown approx. 18:00Hrs.WE WILL DRIVE INTO ONE OF THE SAFARI CAMPS IN THE AREA AFTER THE DRIVE, FOR US TO BE ABLE TO WATCH THE CULTURAL PROGRAMS AND HAVE DINNER IN THE CAMP.
THIS WILL BE FIXED WITH THE CAMP MANAGEMENT DEPENDING UPON THE NUMBER OF CONFIRMATIONS TILL 10AM THURSDAY MORNING, PLEASE CONFIRM SEPARATELY IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE CAMP.
THERE WILL BE A CHARGE OF AED50.00 PER HEAD FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO GO TO THE SAFARI CAMP, FOR DINNER, WHICH WILL BE CHARGED BY THE CAMP.
THE OPTION OF DRIVING AND NOT GOING INTO THE SAFARI CAMP IS OBVIOUSLY ALWAYS THERE, FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT WANT TO GO TO THE CAMP.
PLEASE CARRY SOME WARMER CLOTHES AND HEADGEAR ALONG AS THE WEATHER MIGHT BE A BIT CHILLY FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN AND SOME PEOPLE.Checklist:-
a) Ensure your 4 x 4 vehicle is in serviceable condition, with tow hooks at front & rear and with the spare tyre.
b) Compatible Radio is a must.
c) Carry all necessary offroad gears, in good condition.
d) Carry enough water / refreshments / re-hydration drinks for self & co-passenger(s).

Sounds like an interesting trip. Two questions though if we do go to the camp by what time approximately will we be done ?
And will there be more than one convoy for the drive ?Thank youu! :drive:
Sounds like a really good trip! I was planning on doing a course this weekend as I have not been offroading before, but as this trip is for learners would it make more sense to do this trip this weekend and do the lesson at a later day perhaps.
What equipment would I need as a minimum, I currently have the following;
– Walkie Talkie
– Air Compressor
– Tyre Deflaters
– Spade
– Tyre Gauge

The course was a free course that I got with the purchase of the jeep so cant really complain.

I’m would like to come on this as well if that’s OK. I’m a friend of Dave’s. I’ve been out a couple of times with the guys from work but they don’t go out often enough so need to get more involved. I’ve been up to fossil rock and out round Oman (somewhere) a couple of times.
I’ve got roughly the same kit as dave but have also collected tow ropes and shackles and other assorted tools,

David you’ve made the right decision.
If you bought the vehicle thru the ‘OFF Road Zone’ and the course is with Minas then it’s OK he’s a good guy:)
However as Zarir says you’ll experience more, get more kms under the rubber with a DO drive. It’s progressive ‘chez nous’. We drive every week sometimes several days a week you can join any drive in your category even Night Drives. You can also apply to participate in drives beyond your grading by contacting the Marshall concerned directly. He can obtain knowledge of your ability via our staff network. You meet a lot of people, very cosmopolitan 😉
Learners (Newbie 1-5 drives) leads to Fewbie/5-10drives, leads to Fewbie +/10+drives, leads to Intermediate/ 20+drives, leads to Advanced. The number of drives is not cast in concrete. Some take to offroading very quickly, others have similar prior experiences -Mud -snow etc. By the time you get to the Advanced Level you’ve a lot of different skills under your belt, including recovery techniques and ability to read the terrain. Beyond the Advanced level, attributes other than the driving skills of the person are taken into consideration. People are encouraged to participate, grading is very consensual process between staff members. Grading requires 5 positive votes by the DO staff Team, Rangers – Marshall’s, basically the names in red 🙂

Thank youu! :drive:The Camp activity is typically for 2-3 hours, so we should be done by 2100Hrs. (9pm) approx.
The convoy logistics can only be crystallized once we have the number of registrations and the Marshal support available.
Dave & Chris you are both welcome to join the drive, please clarify if you would like to go to the camp too and if you would have any guests as well?
