Wrangler Questions!

    Afternoon All,

I’m new to the whole off-roading thing, but have and always will be a car nut. I’ve purchased a manual ’07 wrangler JK sport, which already has a few modifications, lift kit, 33″ wheels, etc.

I’ve been out for a little play in the dunes with some friends immediately behind Al Qudra to get the feel for it and some experience digging and recovering and have all the kit bar the walkie talkie to come out with you guys. I do have a couple of questions though…

    1. Which gears are manual the wrangler owners with bigger wheels out there using. I’ve read a few things some people are sticking with 1-2 in 4hi, others are running 3-5 4lo, the bigger wheels make all the gears a bit higher so whats best or does it depend on the terrain?

    2. The car has quick disconnect sway bars installed, does anybody disconnect for general dune bashing as I guess we shouldnt be making tight fast turns anyway and the extra articulation would help when cresting?

oh and 3. The speedo is miles out, anybody recommend someone who can correct it? I’ve been flashed twice already…

Looking forward to meeting and learning from you all ๐Ÿ™‚

    M.

    Hi there,

You have got you self a great toy and I can see the desert bug has bitten you as well, welcome to desert intoxication ๐Ÿ˜‰

1 regarding gears, I would suggest you to experiment various option both lower and high gears and after few drives you will realize which gears are best for you. However I would avoid low gears unless you need extra torque or in stuck situations

2 I really dont think disconnecting sway bars is a good idea. Sway bars are essential part of your suspension and they are more needed in desert then anywhere else

3/ regarding speedo, you can go to BMW road Sharjah, there are plenty of car electric shops, most of them do treat speedo meters.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Humsafar,

Well and truly bitten, after a couple of trips as a passenger I couldn’t let the opportunity go by. I’m currently experimenting as you say both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Really not sure about the sway bars, they’re their to stop body roll on at high speed on the road but I’ve only seen people with them disconnected when rock crawling etc it just seemed like it might be handy in certain situations to get extra traction. I’ve been doing ok with them connected so I’ll leave them that way for now ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll try up there as well but not sure if you need a specialist programmer or if it can be done via obd, the cars probably due a service so I’ll ask when it goes in.

    Cheers!
