Hi Guys,
I would like to have opinions on the performance and build quality of the Ironman Suspension Kit on the Nissan Xterra. I have been looking at Old Man Emu and Ironman as options and I am leaning towards the OME kit but just like anyone else, would love to save a few so I can spend on other goodies.
I have looked at various different forums and reviews here and on other sites. Reviews are mixed so, I would like to hear from other Xterra owners who have the Ironman kit on their cars.
Thanks for all the help
pDear Friend,
Nissan Exterra generally comes with Leaf spring and suspensions. Hence it does not require any upliftment.
Moreover the width of exterra is narrow and uplifting will not have the centre of gravity.
In order to compensate this you need to put spacers and widen you width but there will be lack of slight power and to compensate this you need to change air filter and so on which will never end.
We have couple of members driving exterra as stock and its performance is better…So the suggestion from my side will be to enjoy drive in stock condition.. :thanks: :thanks: :thanks:

Yes, as Humayun says, don’t jump for upgrade now…keeping driving :drive: and you will find out the answer by yourself 🙂
Hi
I ve had the Ironman suspension on my xterra since 2 years. Never had any issue so far. The only thing is that you will get some vibration driving on the road.
And because leave springs get dry they become a bit noisy so you need to apply some grease and oil from time to time.
I have the basic model but if you got the offroad model you dont need any suspension cuz its already lifted.
hope this is helpful . If you need any more info let me know.
mustafaMarch 31, 2014 at 7:30 am #29572Thank you very much for all the advice guys, I understand that this is a never ending process, but my problem is not with the height of the car, it’s with the load carrying capacity of the car with the stock suspension. I realize I was not clear when I posted my question, so here is a little background.
My car is usually loaded with spare parts and other equipment required to service machines. These Parts can easily be over a hundred kilos and that’s without adding the tools. The rear bottoms out over every bump and sometimes it gets a little hairy. My work takes me around the UAE and sometimes to places where the main road is a dirt strip. So, I was looking at getting a stiffer suspension and not a lift in particular. But it seams that everything out there offers a higher ride so I was going to settle for that.
I have done my reading and I am considering spacers and a little trimming. I do go out into the desert a bit and you are right, the stock car is just fine for the obstacles out there providing one is safe and smart.
In any case, thank you all for taking the time to reply and share your experiences. I hope to see you all soon on a drive….
Regards
PP.S. Mustafah, can you please explain the problem with the vibration ? do you sense it a certain speeds or all the time ?
You are welcome Prannoyalva
Probably its not a good idea to install a lift kit, maybe all you need to modify the rear spring leaves. You can check in Sharjah BMW road with Iranian shops , but I am not sure about that.
Best idea is to get a small Nissan pickup or Toyota Hilux. I do work with tools and machinery but I never used the Xterra for that.
As for vibration , its is slight at high speeds over 100 and its normal when you install a lift kit. You also feel more when you go on a bump
Best of luckquote Prannoyalva:Thank you very much for all the advice guys, I understand that this is a never ending process, but my problem is not with the height of the car, it’s with the load carrying capacity of the car with the stock suspension. March 31, 2014 at 11:12 am #29577Sounds good, will look into that and let you know what happens, also have you looked at installing rear axle degree shims to try to eliminate the vibration ? if its from the drive line.
