Tires for Pajero SWB – confused as ever !!

Hey guys,
need some help in choosing tires for my 2006 3.0 SWB Pajero with 150K on odo, OE size is 265/70/R16 and I wish to stay OE size for now, I checked few tire shops and couldn’t find any good shop who gave me a honest opinion, they were all basically trying to sell me tires which they have in stock :ymdevil:
I basically use my car to enjoy in the desert, car is bone stock, no mods what so ever. Only on-road use is may be once or twice a week to go for dinner n stuff and off-course couple of hundred kms to reach the meeting points for our drives and get back home :drive: :drive:.
I am considering below times at this time, if any one knows a good tyre shop who would stock 2014 batch of tires let me know the location please. If you think any other tire is better for my use, please suggest based on your experience
1) BFG All All-Terrain KO
2) Bridgestone Dueler A/T 697
2) Dunlop Grandtrek
3) Yokohama Geolander All-Terrain
4) Cooper Discoverer At3 (may be?)I want honest opinion from experienced guys which tyre will be best suited for my car n driving requirement, Even though number of kms I drive on-road might look higher compared to desert driving, mostly its to get into desert and get out.

I have had a Pajero SWB since October last and been off roading since January and have the Geolander tyres and have no complaints – they came with the car but totally happy

Thanks Andrew for your feedback, waiting for feedback from some more fellow DO members before finalizing on one.
Called Al Futaim today and asked for BFGs, they tried to sell me 2012 make tires..

Only someone who tried them all can give you 100% feedback 🙁 not many ppl I risk to assume…
My advise is if you were happy with your used tyres, go for the same, if not, let us know what ur not happy with and we can start from there
related to 2012 tyres – I bought mine in 2012 and they are 2012 production. Now I need to change them in like 6 months, with like 80% thread on them and barely done 30k km just because they start cracking (I use my car same like you only for safari and as spare). Conclusion – its ok to buy 2012 tyres (but with 50% discount), they will not last for longer than 3 years anyway… 😉 😀
I never used them, but heard from users that BFG and Coopers are not very good in sand. However nobody I know ever complained about Bridgestone, Dunlop and Yoko.

I currently have Dunlop and I actually do not have any problem apart from steering wobble at high speed (130+) which I believe is due to uneven tire wear since previous owner wanted to save alignment money :(. I liked the aggressive thread pattern of BFGs but wanted to know whether these tires will put any strain on the engine (mine is a 3.0 V6 not 3.8) and do they provide any functional benefit in the desert. My primary goal for this car is desert so looks doesn’t matter, hence if BFGs and Cooper Discoverer does not provide any benefit in desert, I frankly do not want them. I already looked at Yokohama and was offered AED 620 per tire for 2014 stock. Anyone knows where I could get Bridgestone Dueler A/T 697? no one seems to have them. Any one here running Bridgestone 697?

One big mistake in choosing tyres is going for only the looks or the brand names or prices. Many do it. Tyres are the only point of contact between the car and the ground hence it should be treated considering safety first.
Think of the best desert tyres for desert: 1)baloon tyres 2) buggy tyres – both types with hardly any pattern.
Also, no matter how hard manufacturers would try, it is impossible to have an all-purpose tyre. If it’s designed for street, then it’s average in desert, and if it’s designed for offroad then its rubbish on street. If it’s done 50/50 then look at it as a glass with half water – some will see it half full, and some will see it half empty 😉For 697 u can call dealer directly they have their own stores and if I’m not mistaken their package comes with free lifetime balance and align
already checked with Dealer, they said its stopped 🙁
The OEM product is normally the best option in most cases.
Thus Yokohama Geolander should tick all the major boxes for a Pajero.
Agressive tyre patterns may look good but are not good in the sand or on even on the tarmac.
Ahmad bhai, thanks for your feedback, with all the feedback I received so far, it is clear that I do not need aggressive pattern so I will leave it aside. Is there any place where many DO members go to change the tires and get some discount or can be sure that alignment and balancing is done properly?

@vijayhedge a few fils from my side to add to denis’s cents.
imho the bfg would not be apt for your ride. the bfgs are indeed aggresive looking and long lasting but quite heavy. dont subject the pajero to this torture.
my pajero had the dunlop grandtrek and never had any complaints. neither onroad nor offroad. this year moved to yokohoma geolander. but the pajero for the last 2 years is purely for on road so dont know how the geos would be off road. between the grandtrek and the geos, while the geos were cheaper, i found the geos to be slightly more noisy on tarmac.
cooper at3 – just love them. have them on my fj since 2 years and absolutely no regrets. i would definately replace this set with another at3 set when the time comes. infact wanted them for the pajero also but didnt get them in oe size.
as you rightly said, the wobble is more a function of the alignment and not the tyre brand.
@zarir, I like the thread pattern of AT3, I checked cooper site and it is available in the size I need which is OE for SWB pajero. Can you please tell whether they are heavy like BFGs, I too have grandtrek right now which I have been using on/off road for last 10K kms, have been to 6 drives so far
