    Hi Jeepers,

    Need some help…

1.how do you guys turn off the ESP on your Jeep?
    2. Do you pull out the Air Bags fuse to disable it while driving Off Road?

i fellow driver suggested to pull out the the ESP & Air bag fuse so both are disabled, i did my research & found out that disabling the Air bags is not advisable.

Please let me know what you do to disable ESP & do you also disable the Air Bags?

    Thanks for your input.

    Regards

    Hi Ritesh,

Thanks for the question. You could always consult your user manual ๐Ÿ˜‰

To turn off your ESP, there is a button located in the central station beneath your radio. You can press it once to turn off ESP 50%, or hold it in for 5 seconds to turn it off. If you do this you will get (ESP Off) in the instrument cluster. This will suffice for your level of driving currently.

However, speaking from personal experience, I pull out a fuse which turns off traction control, airbags and ABS. These fuses are numbered 40 and are located at J6 & J7 in the fuse box.

Just pressing the ESP button does not fully turn off ESP despite what it claims. It will still mean the computer is monitoring traction and to give you an extreme example I experienced, whilst crossing a high ridge, the on board computer in its wisdom decided I was about to crash and limited my power to the wheels as a result of wheel spin nearly causing a bad situation for me. Since then I pull the fuse.

Taking out the fuse also has the benefit of turning off ABS which means your braking in the desert will be much more controlled especially for sudden braking and descents where the brakes can get very jumpy or even lock out.

As with regard air bags, whilst these are there to protect you, if your on board computer again deems a crash situation and deploys them for nothing this can hamper vision and possibly cause an accident for you. They are then also very expensive to replace, somewhere in the region of 10,000AED. I have seen air bags deployed in Toyota but not in a Jeep so far. This is a personal decision for you to make and I note you have read its best to not take them out. I would disagree however.

I would personally leave in the fuse for your current level of driving and consider the fuse removal at a later time.

Hope this helps. You can always speak to me at one of our :drive:
