Hey Guys,
Has any one tried these and has feedback on how good do they work on FJ? I believe Denis has similar for Jeep
I have 2 of these (USB and Bluetooth) They are universal for any car.
It only triggers error codes when u have <engine check> light on.
But there are errors in the ECU which do not light up the <engine check>, so those will not be read by this.
You can have some free apps on your smartphone to read, you can buy advanced apps, which will read more info, which I never used. Also you can erase the error, so if it was just a glitch, you save the money, otherwise you need to find solution.
For a normal user reading engine check light is the only benefit, and even with this error, you need basic understanding how to fix the car. or else you will still end-up in the garage and the guys will anyway do testing on their advanced testers and normally if you do the job there itself, they might not even charge you for testing.
From my experience mechanics don’t like at all people who show-up with parts ready and offer a couple of bux to just install them ๐
an example that this tool saved me:
– car was suddenly running extremely poor, engine check light on – it was some water leaked on one of spark plugs, the OBD said which one, so took it off, cleaned, dried, and in 5 mins restarted commutingAlso, most cars have already inbuilt self-testing mode which will show lots of faults, in my jeep for example its 3 times ignition on/off without start and last position is ON, so the engine check light will flash a Morse code which I can look up on the WWW for the meaning. Yours might have some other algorithm but logic is same.
