Hello All
Attached file has reference.
When driving east from Hatta towards the Oman border, there is a service road that hugs the UAE/OMAN Borderline as it moves in a southerly direction (highlighted in yellow on attached map). On the map it seems to make for a nice circular drive from Hatta. Does anyone have any experience of driving this route? What can be expected and what to see/look out for?
Dear WildWill,
I drive 2 year ago along with the fence from beginning of 1st Oman Boarder on E44 (after Madam Roundabout) till Hatta fort hotel.
It is a nice track but never go alone as it was pretty scary at few points (ramp of 60-70 degree in curve) and no one will be available in case of emergency. Below is the link of few snaps that i captured.Regards,
Yasir
not sure about this fence and driving along this, I remember a nice route along the Oman-UAE fence north of the Rowdah area, which some old offroad route books used to call the Valley of Death. When the valley of death became out of bonds due to the fence. I remember having lead a couple of trips called “Border Patrol” along this fence and it was very popular with photography buffs. Later, it formed part of one of the GNFD drives also.
You can join this track east of Fili (some 15 kms) north of Madam towards Maleiha. there’s an access to this spot from Sharjah Kalba road (E102) also.
You can reach the circular fence at N25° 00.695′ E55° 57.987′ (there’s a small recharge dam as well as the confluence point 25°N 56°N close to this track) this route offers excellent variation of elevation and a fantastic view at the summit. The fence track takes you to a spot which is very close to the new road that now links E44 to E102.
I haven’t been to that area for couple of years now, so don’t know the drive quality of the graded track. Do you homework on the satellite map and attempt :drive: this route. I am sure you wont be disappointed even if you have to turn back midway.
edited to add – I guess Yasir is referring to the same fence in the reply above. if that’s correct, the track in this picture looks like a highway 🙂 now.
as a related topic i can highly recommend the following route 🙂 :
some of the route passes the border fence and goes up the mountain, i did it a few months ago, Sand – sky – sea, very apt name! Happy :drive:
