Friday’s drive had a huge turnout for an August month! Must have been the 15 minute later start at 4pm that encouraged the members. ๐
So we all met at Nazwa and deflated – we were split into 3 convoys. The intermediate convoy with 2 stars and above was led by Duncan and sweep was Walter. The convoy was relatively large and at times there were a few stucks and second attempts. (Thanks Duncan and Simon for the gentle tug – hope that bumper won’t be too much trouble) All in all the drive started off very well as we made our way to big red.
En route the sand got a little more tricky in places and the dunes a little more taxing. All this with the experience of driving in “Safari world” added to the chaos!
Most of us had not seen so many safari convoys about with their “crazy drive styles” and route options…. ๐
As we headed up big red the majority of us made it to the top to have a breather from the masses where we had a short break and waited to regroup with those having a little difficulty. Definitely a nice view front the top! After our descent a few from the group exited and the remainder was still up for a little more action on the big red just before sunset, a quick swing round the back to have a bit more fun… But then just after crossing one of the ridges one of the engines stopped whilst on the top of the ridge. After safely descending with momentum the engine would not start… After a little blowing, patting, patience and TLC the vehicle came back to life – the safer option at this point was to exit as we were just opposite the badayer shops. I have to mention it… It was a JEEP! ๐
It was a great drive as usual – thanks a lot to everyone for another fun outing. :thanks:Thanks for the great recap of the intermediate ride Phil; very nice to know how your trip went!
The newbies had a fantastic ride thanks to the great leadership of Abdulla in the lead and Asem and Dennis as sweeper/mechanics. We had a pleasant ride meandering through dunes and riding troughs and crests from time to time. The day was warm and the sand was soft. We had a few recoveries (starting with Asem pulling me out, but as he rightly pointed out…I only got stuck as I wanted to try out my new Viking kinetic tow rope ๐ ). The convoy continued on until we had some mechanical issues with one of our guys. The vehicle was having issues keeping cool and maintaining power up the dunes. Dennis was able to pull out some of his mechanical gadgetry to assess the issue and make a fix well-enough to keep it safely moving. Our track saw us cross many safari convoys and it was very clear that they drive less professional and less responsibly managed compared to DO. So lessons learned to always be defensive driving when crossing other convoys in the dunes; you never know what you can expect from them. As the sun set and darkness began to cover the desert we ended up at Big Red where there was a plethora of cars racing to the top. A few brave guys from the newbies tried their luck and had fun in doing so. Our two Raptors could not resist the urge and each of them powered their mighty 6.2L engines with a solid ascent :drive: We finished the drive at the shops where most of us called it a day but a few others decided to continue on with a night drive. :-ss
A great afternoon had by all and a big thanks to our leaders: Abdulla, Asem, and Dennis. :thanks: :thanks:
See you next week!

AnonymousAugust 23, 2015 at 6:59 am #33591Another great day out with the DO family. I was given the opportunity to sweep for the fewbie convoy with Joe as the lead. This was my first ever sweep responsibility. Hope I did it well Joe.
The drive was very nice with lots of side crests and ridge riding. A very nice track selected by Joe for the fewbie drive.
We had a few retries but all was well.
Kartik had a bad day, not due to his driving style but due to his car giving funny problems from time to time. Mainly the traction and ABS kicking in on its own and secondly his transmission temp going high. I must say…. well done Kartik even with all these problems…. you braved thru and completed the drive with everyone else. Keep up the good work and spirit and never feel low. I hope your passenger has recovered from the drive by now.Hope to see you all this weekend for more fun.
Till then tc n have a good week.
Thanks to Joe and Duli who helped me in all the troubles faced in this ride and joe himself tried to fix the issue but nothing works out and at last Duli took me along with him till the last and brought me out safe.
Thanks duli, my co passenger was recovered yesterday.
My car was faced bit of the issue but after seeing the confident of you and Joe on me, which has given real energy to fight back after that great recovery. Till now I have not forget the real motivation speech of Joe on my 3 ride, even now I remember the words of Joe which give immense power inside me.
I will try to fix the issue before the end of the week, so that I can join you on 28th.
Once again a special thanks to Joe and Duli. :thanks:
