Drive Terrain: SandChecklist:
a) Keep your emergency contact info at vehicle dashboard.
b) Carry air compressor with you and ensure it’s in working condition.
c) Ensure your 4×4 vehicle is in perfect condition and with enough fuel.
d) Compatible Radio is a must.
e) Carry all necessary off-road gear / recovery equipment in good working condition.
f) Carry enough water / refreshments / re-hydration drinks for self & co-passenger(s).We had a great drive today, the sand at Sweihan was untouched and allowed for a fast paced smooth drive.
It all started with a recently added fence that was blocking our way. Alex and co-pilot Denis found a weakness in the fences defences and allowed the drive to continue unhindered.
The dunes in Sweihan provide an angle that Badayer can’t quite match as do the climbs and ridges that seem much sharper. We weaved our way between the dunes as we made our way towards “Death Bowl”. On our first break Philip had noticed a knocking noise in his rear suspension, upon inspection he found that the exact same sheer that had happened to his left shock two weeks ago had now happened to his right. Denis and Alex who has had recent practice with this procedure removed the shock. Philip and Jatin(who was having a problem with his 4×4 system) made an early exit via a track back along the line of the dunes we were following.
The rest of the convoy continued carving out a route towards Death Bowl with Alex and Bernado catching up after ensuring a safe exit of Philip and Jatin. We rounding off a few ridges along the way and encountered some massive open dunes that unfortunately were quickly passed by as we were behind schedule (I will post a drive to go back to that area to fully appreciate it). Once we reached Death Bowl we had a play and exited along a track back to the road.
Thanks to Philip and Amer for your second lead, Jatin and Alex for your sweep and technical know how and Jason for your general dune bashing expertise and cool head.
Fantastic drive! There is something special about Sweihan, and the “Death” bowl towards the end provided previously unheard of G-Force!
Simon on lead carved a smooth fast thrilling (to say the least!) route, with great rhythm and pace. I liked the “gentle start” =))
Thanks to Alex and Jason also for the sweep. Great convoy, they always are..!:thanks:
