DUBAI OFFROADERS – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. How does Dubai Offroaders’ ranking system work?
We have a star rating system to ensure each driver joins the drive that she/he or is capable of participating in. It starts with an individual having no stars and moves up-to a maximum of five stars with their respectively assigned ranks such as ‘Newbie’, ‘Fewbie’, ‘Intermediate’ and so on.
The rating system helps us to assign separate convoys for each drive, enabling a positive experience for all participants. This system was developed to ensure the safety of the drivers & passengers and Dubai Offroaders’ management exercises no leniency in enforcing this rule.
2. How do I get promoted?
Over the course of ten years, we have developed a system where a driver is identified by assigned Marshals to exhibit a certain level of off-road driving skills and experience and based on that she/he is recommended by one of the Marshals.
We then have a process where that individual is observed by other members of the management committee and they vote whether she/he is ready for the promotion. Some members take two drives, some take twenty to move from no stars to one star. This is the same even when it comes to the promotion of Marshals. Like any skill, some people pick it quickly, where others take more time. Eventually every member has an equal opportunity to join the top management ranks.
3. I have been off-roading for years so why do I have to start with no star and in the newbie convoy?
As the management team we hold the right to rate your level of skills. Our convoys can prove tricky even for experienced drivers as our regular members have highly tuned skills and current experience because they typically drive every Friday, round the year.So please give us the time to evaluate your skills and there is a good chance that you will be promoted through the ranks quickly, if you are as capable as you think. In case there is a delay in promotion, that again is in the interest of safety and basically the DO Management is waiting for you to upgrade your skills so that you can be promoted to the next level.
4. What are the charges for attending the drivers?
Dubai Offroaders is a nonprofit club, solely for likeminded individuals to get together and have offroad driving, Camping and an expedition experience in a controlled, safe environment.
There are no fees for participation in the drives for casual drivers, who may join the drives on and off on an irregular basis.
This club has been in operation for ten years plus, with more than a 1,000 drives conducted over this period, with uncountable number of hours invested by the management team in building this club to what it is today. Dubai Offroaders has been providing a platform for its members to enjoy and relax in an adventurous environment, for years now. We can guarantee the experiences you will have with Dubai Offroaders will be more than worth it.
6. I have just joined and getting ready for my first drive, what equipment do I need?
First and foremost, an off-road vehicle. Secondly, a radio, a flag that can be mounted on the back of your car and basic recovery equipment is necessary. For the complete set of equipment required, read carefully the checklist that is placed by each lead Marshal on the trip thread on the website.
However, you don’t need a specialized set of wheels with modifications to join our newbie drives. Any new member is compulsorily placed in the newbie convoy, which is easy and there is expert help available to guide, assist or help you out of any tricky situations.
