    Cresting
    Is when you go in a straight line to cut a dune to land on the other side of the dune..

    Side Sloping
    Is when you drive on the side of the dune in a parallel way to the ground.

    Dune surfing
    Is when you move on the tip of the dune.

    Side-Cresting
    Is when you do the side slope and then crest on the dune sideways to the other side.

    Few simple rules, before you try the above..

    1. Do not do any of the above if you have a doubt doing it, hesitation is the worst.
    2. Do not do any of the above without totally knowing your car and its capabilities and measures.
    3. Always make sure dune are clear from both sides.
    4. Always wait for experienced drivers inputs.

    +1 for what Jessil mentioned. very good terms.

    But even if you are hesitate of doing any of above, still try on very small dune or by very small sidey which will help you break the fear. The more you get stuck the more you learn.

    Its more fun in getting unstuck and learning the skills.

    Be safe, use your common sense, simple physics, immediate judgement, flexible mind and enjoy.

    Driving left to right, front of car goes over middle first

    Side Sloping
    Is when you drive on the side of the dune in a parallel way to the ground.
    Driving parallel to ground on right

    Dune surfing

    Driving on the line in the center

    Side-Cresting
    Is when you do the side slope and then crest on the dune sideways to the other side.
    Starting parallel to ground on left and going over center to drive parallel to ground on right.

    Yo Shan buddy, you never did any of the side slope crestings yesterday :-\ . I know I was driving fast and maneuvering more for yesterday’s coffee trip :p . I think you’ve tremendously increased your skills but that fear factor still lies there. I would have had the same if my ride was a daily driver. :p
