No plans for the next weekend? No problem!
Hundreds of off-roaders are going dune bashing between Umm Al Quwain and Dubai on Friday, January 15, in the 2010 Gulf News Overnighter Fun Drive.
Setting off from the UAE Motorplex in Umm Al Quwain, drivers will embark at 6am next Friday on a 200-km sandy stretch to a desert camp in a journey that should take about eight hours.
After some well-deserved rest and recreation at the camp, guests will be served a breakfast meal on Saturday before driving back to Dubai.
Drivers have to first register at the Gulf News offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Al Ain between 9am and 2pm on working days. The outdoor adventure is valued at Dh300 per adult and Dh175 per child (only 8 and above allowed).
The tradition goes back to 1986, when 75 vehicles braved the deep sands. Now, the yearly occasion sees around 750 enthusiasts – both experienced and novices – get behind the wheel.
As always, the event is supported by Al Futtaim Motors – Toyota. The UAE Motorplex, UAQ and the Emirates Motor Sports Federation are also sponsoring the Fun Drive.

are we gonna be in different convoys led by marshals just like our drives ? is that the pattern.
If so can I and my friend No 122 join in your convoy ahmed bhai ?
No Stanly, there are no different convoys. There is one whole big convoy and after every 20 cars, there is 1 Mobile Rescue Team (2 Marshals). But, once out there, you can lag behind and wait for anyone you like and then meet them up. Just call 🙂

How about channel Etisalat till we meet up? :p There will be too many people on channel 5 that day. Dont know how good that idea is to use channel 5 to communicate 🙂

Hi all… Let’s meet up at 6… Opposite to hamariya freezone enoc petrol station and move from there in a convoy…who ever can manage to reach there please be there on time or else we shall see at starting point.
