I think you are correct, as long as you get a 3.0V current it should be OK.April 23, 2012 at 5:40 am #16744quote Khalil_mtl:Krishnan/imran have a 276c that does not work anymore… I guess… If its sitting somewhere in someone’s drawer why not getting a deal on it… Then you can scavenge whatever you need from it ๐ you still need to be nice to them ๐Krishnan’s / Imran’s GPS is still with me…Satwinder can probably speak to Krisnan directly and work out some deal/ arrangement…This GPS’s firmware is corrupted and the GPS is not repairable…but as Khalil said…I too am sure that the parts could be scavenged from both to have at least a single correctly working unit.
The only thing to ponder is that after these treatment/s…How reliable would the GPS be? :-\
Hi Satwinder, I am having an old Nuvi. Can you try your expertise to convert it to something similar to 276C ๐
Having gone through your repair narration, it will be a surprise for me, if you say its not possible. ๐ฎ ๐However, its a good job and good attempt.. never give up!!! :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
Mine is Nuvi 715. I have upload 2011 Middle East City Navigator maps in it. Working perfect. Having good satellite reception and no time lapse.
One offroad feature what I felt missing was track recording. Still its possible to customize this track recording feature in Nuvi715, with lot of personal efforts on each occasion, for which I am lazy always ๐
Nuvi 715 automatically records the track by default. There is no option to deactivate it. Instead you can clear all recorded tracks. It will always highlight track you have traveled. Therefore while on move, it clearly indicates which way you came from. It will retain such records tracks in memory till it reaches the maximum size of 2000 points. After that it will overwrite the oldest track.
Also for navigation, it will indicate a straight line to the location / coordinates (offroad mode) which is sufficient to decide – Which way to go.
Here comes the hard job for converting recorded tracks to a retrievable route / track for future use.
You need to have Mapsource Ver.5.1 or higher and import the tracks from the GPS device. It will copy all available tracks. Chose the desired, track which will be displayed by date, time and distance. The selected track will be displayed as “breadcrumbs” in the base map. Then you have two options:-
1) Use Track Draw Tool:- Draw your desired track on top of the breadcrumb way points (its a time taking process). Once you are done, you can see your new track with a new name on the index window (left side). Rename the track as you desire and export to the GPS device. However, this process does not work with Nuvi 715. It doesn’t have the feature to accept external tracks. It creates tracks and stores it in memory, which is not retrievable in the device.
2) Route Tool:- Follow the above procedure for drawing a route on top of the breadcrumbs, rename the route and export to GPS device. For better efficiency, export this customized route to the external memory card. Then in the device go to “My Data” and selected “Import Routes”. You will see a progress bar and the route will be installed in the device with a successful completion message. Note:- The device creates such routes by using “waypoints” and you will end up finding huge number of waypoints named by number under favorites. Deleting such waypoints will make the route incomplete or delete.
Because of the above hazzle, I will prefer to have a GPS having ready to record feature. To that aspect, I felt MotionX is very handy. But is there a way to convert the .GPX output file, compatible with Nuvi 715 as custom route? :-\
