Back in the sand after three weeks and it was good to see a great turn-out towards the fag end of the season and meet and greet familiar faces and friends. The convoys were split in an organised manner by Ganesh as and when the members arrived which saved a lot of time and allowed the drive to start quickly once everyone arrived. :thanks: Ganesh for your initiative and effort. You always amaze with me your dedication and organizational skills :ymhug:
I had the pleasure of being led by Parvez saab for the very first time in the dunes as a part of the 1st convoy and it was good to see the gaffer at work dashing, cresting, side-sloping over small and tricky dunes as well as conquering the big ones with ease. :thanks: Ahmad saab for a very technical :drive: indeed ensuring that there is minimal damage to the suspensions with your approach.
Ashok and Firoz had the sweeping duties and didn’t really have a lot to do apart from a couple of occasions. :thanks: guys for keeping a watch on the convoy.
Everyone drove really well and we were there on Iftar bowl in good time to play around a bit. The lead then decided to take us to the other top dunes enroute to Ghost Town(GT). We stopped at the tree-house for a good 30 minutes or so for general chit-chat while the kids played in the tree-house. This is where the spirits got into David’s Armada and then it was decided to head out to the tarmac for safety reasons.
Ashok was then assigned to lead the convoy to GT while Ahmed saab and Amin stayed back with David for the tow-truck.
As for me personally, I was finally able to exorcise the spirits and reach Ghost Town albeit from the Shwaib Road.
:thanks: Ashok for leading us in and out of GT.
Regards
Sajid
PS : Ganesh and gang who camped for the night, I guess the ghosts were getting back to you with eerie cries for invading their town ๐
April 21, 2013 at 9:18 am #26037Great work Guys!!!
Marshals & participants alike!!!
Keep it up!!!
:ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:quote GKumar:Indeed, it was an awesome evening with around 35 cars and almost all DO Marshals were in action, led by the Chairman himself :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:Amazing drive reports from Dada ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ and Iqsaan :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: along with the feedbacks of Davidoff, Hongbin, Himanshu, David and Mehboob summarizes the whole event and the fun we all had :-BD :-BD :-BD ๐ ๐ ๐
So many participants for the drive and till now only a very few casted their drive feedback ๐ :(( Come on… its your forum and you are most welcome to cast here your feedbacks :ymhug:
See you all very soon and look forward to drive many more with you :drive: :drive: :drive:
I think most of the convoys have been covered very eloquently in the contributions above, however since GKumar is exhorting us to respond I shall.
I’d like to compliment the TFT and Ganesh in particular for the arrival organisation of such a massive convoy meet.
Our convoy lead by Ahmad has been very well documented by brother Saj. As always the trip to GT is one of unknowns, David (DVG) was the unfortunate victim of unfriendly :ymdevil: spirits this time around. However persistence, dedication and DO won through and all turned out for the best at the end of the day.
:thanks: to Ahmad Ganesh Gkumar Ashok and all the TFT CMT for the drive
:thanks: to DVG, brother Saj & Mehbob, Davidoff, Rein, Dhval & family, Amin, Firoz & Family for your comany. Great driving with you guys and gal’s ๐ . Nice to meet the other members of the meet at the BBQ spot :ymdevil:, well done DO’s & congrats to the campers :ymdevil: :ymdevil:April 21, 2013 at 10:56 am #26042The April 19th Drive was yet another testimony to fact that DO walk what DO talks !
It was absolute fun and is more evident from almost all the drive report posted so far !A heart thanks to the entire echelon of the DO Management team and to Marshal Ganesh for organising such a wonderful drive. ^:)^ :-BD
Thanks to all the fellow DOers for making it lively :ymapplause: :ymhug:Now to the most difficult part of drive report ( Difficult due to the fact that many seniors and many of the members have beautifully & so lively narrated the event that writing a report after that is just too…..)
Nevertheless, here I go !
The massive convoy arrived and assembled almost at the appointed hour and special thanks to Ganesh for quickly alloting spots for the convoy and the line formed up even quickly.
The convoy were briefed and for the benefit of some of our newest members, few safety parameters were reemphasized. Our Chairman gave a brief speech and our lovely friends David Gula (DVG) and Amin ( Bubban) were presented with the DO Mug ! Am sure they will be using it while they “re energise” themselves :p
The group then started moving and regrouping for further briefing by the respective Lead & Sweep Marshals.
With lost of anticipation each convoy moved in the respective tracks carved out.
I was in Convoy 2 ,led by Marshal Saif and with Tiger( G Kumar) and Khalil rendering support to all.
The drive was fun and with few stucks & one popout which as usual was sorted out as quickly as possible.
At a point, the whole convoy was stopped so that Shauna (Armada) was re joined in the group after a small glitch.
We then moved towards the even most anticipated Ghost town and we were the first convoy to reach point and had our unhindered visit ๐
A little later the other convoys too reached the spot and started preparing for the gala event ( Had to briefly wait as some of our brothers offered their evening prayers)
The BBQ was at full swing and it was no less than a full fledged family gathering with kids having their share of fun .We had to bid our farewell to few of our fellow DOs as they had to move on.
I stayed for a while and departed with the last convoy heading for the exit leaving behind the FANTASTIC FOUR to play around with the :ymdevil:
=(( to the fact that I miserably missed the next day morning drive with them.Special thanks to Dhaval & Family for taking care of my vegigie delights… They were superb.
:thanks: to Leo , Avinash , Dada , GK , Mr.Moorthy (Guest), Firoz bhai , Saif , Thanseer sb, pervez sb , Jason , Gabriel , Hongbin , our ever grinning Brian , Nikki , Shauna & all other DO friends.
Signing off the report to register for the upcoming drive ๐
Absolutely thrilling drive… :ymhug: finally made it to Ghost Town – second attempt for me heh ๐ wish come true :drive:
Wish could have stayed camping… once all of my family members will be grown enough to, will surely do it :ymsmug:
Ganesh covered most of it in the drive report, so
:thanks: again to Thanseer, Ganesh and Amjad for the chosen safe/challenging balanced track, support and back-up. I admire you all the TFT for the patience/understanding/support/adventure we can only get by joining you :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
Was just about to lose my star :-s , but looks like my Jeep got the message and stopped giving worries :))
Otherwise, still learning the car, as I only drive it offroad since purchased, still building it to a surprise-free level, getting closer relationship with the drivetrain, practicing self-recovery techniques, discovering new potential ๐ Ifthar Bowl – here I come :ymdevil:
Too bad it’s getting too hot outside, not only for us, but also for our cars… hope the season is not over yet tho’Cheers and safe driving! :drive:
A very nice gathering…..
Superb technical driveโฆThanks Ahmed sir โฆwe all enjoyed the drive very much :ymapplause:
Nice BBQ. Special thanks to the kitchen headsโฆGanesh and Mujeeb deserves a special appaulause. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
Totally an unforgettable day in DO’s history…most probably the single largest crowd :ymparty: :ymparty:
The quality time we spend during the short break at Tree house and after the drive was really worthโฆ
Hope everyone enjoyed and look forward for more wonderful drives like this in the future.
Thanks Marshal, all my friends and brothers who made the day very special.
Special thanks to the ‘youngman’ ๐ for the wonderful company
Since many of you have already made a great description of the drive, I will let the video speak for itself. I apologise in advance for not getting everyone, as my camera’s battery was acting up.
I wanted to tank Ahmed for his great lead as well as Ashok and Firoz for keeping us in line :drive:
Enjoy!

After several detailed drive report, there is not much to say. The drive was just fantastic ๐ :ymapplause: Enjoyed every minutes, together with my passenger! ๐
Just want to add few words, from newbies perspective. Marshal Saif did a great job to adjust the routes to the participants’ skills, we all had a wonderful time, on an action-packed drive.
The 3 marshals were supportive all the way and shared their experience in various stations, which were for me very valuable lessons:
1, Simple recovery from a crest stuck, and how to avoid it.
2, Myself got stock during an ascend when lost the power in soft sand โ Khalil took my seat, and with a little maneuver in 4Low self-recovered easily. โ Taught me when to use 4Low, and not to forget switching off AC during dune bashing!! ๐ฎ :((
3, Winching Techniques by Marshal Kumar
4, Quick Pop-out fixing by Marshal Saif & Khalil
5, And how to attack Iftar Bowl, and eventually how to get out ๐Thanks again to the Marshals for their helpful attitude, and to the fellow drivers for their company on the ghost drive :ymdevil:
See you on the next one ๐

Just wanted to post a Thank You :thanks: to all the DO team for organising this event. It was a great outing, fun driving, good food and good networking . Particulary enjoyed getting “winched out” by Kumar I think. There was a gentleman sitting in the Patrol (hidden winch) with Kumar (sorry new and bad with names) who took many pictures. Any chance he could share them with us?
