The United Arab Emirates government will monitor, track, tax and ticket every driver with a mandatory black box.
Officials are ready to roll out a black box spy system that allows satellites to track each and every driver in the UAE and automatically issue speeding and other tickets for the slightest transgression. The first 10,000 black boxes will be installed in Abu Dhabi and Dubai with 700,000 installed by 2009.
The GPS-enabled “Smart Box” will also be used to tax drivers for every mile driven and will be rolled out as car registrations are renewed. The device provides a voice warning if the driver exceeds the local speed limit for wherever he may be driving. If the voice warning is ignored, the system would use a GSM/GPRS link to beam the car’s speed, identity and location to the police so that a ticket can be issued. The system would also track and monitor any other driving violations, including “reckless behavior.”
Motoring fines in the Gulf are notoriously harsh, with the maximum penalty for red light running set at six months in prison and a 3,000 dirhams fine ($816 US) along with seizure of the vehicle on the first offense.
Dont know this report is correct or not…… … hope this wont its not correct….
May 26, 2008 at 8:48 am #4095The authorities are just trying their level best to bring the atrocious statistics under control.
I am sure none of our members will ever be ever affected, we are all law abiding citizens.
We do not have to speed or indulge in other stupid antics to get kill our frustration/s,
We have better/ spectacular means to get our adrenaline rush…
As a Club we strictly condemn ir-responsible behaviour on & off-road, & encourange safe smart practices ๐May 29, 2008 at 5:16 am #4140i would first suggest that they get the metro up and running full fledged…and then start taxing people on how much they drive…
thats disgusting, sorry but i will move to bahrain if they do some crap like this… its intrusion of personal rights.. i certainly dont want any authorities tracking my location day and night.. hell they may as well stick one of the boxes on the person not just the car… i do hope they intend to tag all the local people first and see how much they like there every move being tracked.. i doubt its just the traffic offences they are wanting to keep tabs on.. they tried to bring out similar system to track people in UK but the peeps refused to allow the government to do it.. grr stuff like this really really winds me up!!!!!!
