Thanx Shan, for giving me a ride, and introduce me to such a nice group and awesome experience of a morning in Desert.

Next time I will make sure that I park the car at the place where noboy can block it (thought last night I parked it last, so tha I can take it out easily, and got surprised when i find it in the circle of 5 cars, it was like “Razia Ghundoon main phans gayhee) πŸ˜€

Thanks Suren, Lanson, Roshan ,Adeel Bhai, Naveen, Dino, Shahzad ,Vinu for making this trip great.

Now I cannot stop my self from being a permanent member of Morning Drive clan. Since I am an early bird so waking up i not a big problem for me, Plus hyou dont have to face the threats of homo minister, because I find her fast asleep, where I returned. πŸ˜‰

Vinu Thanx for the breakfast dear.

Shan, that tree was a close call, I loved the way guy handle the situation with patience and technicaly.

Can wait for the Next friday :drive:

Trip Brief: Coffee with Roshan: Friday, 16Jan08

The first group met up at meeting point 1, aka Adnoc on King Faisal
St., Sharjah at 5.15am. Humsafar had his car blocked in and took the
    navigator’s seat with me.

We were met by the second group at the Lahbab Petrol Pump at 6am, with
the last of the Sharjah troupe driving in by 6.15am.

We were very lucky to have Suri join us unexpectedly at Lahbab. His
presence was highly appreciated later in the day as he rescued some
    vegetation from my Pajero surfboard.

A total of eight cars drove out to the Big Red entry point, with
Shehzaad doing double duty as Vinu’s co-driver, later graduating to
driver with Vinu learning the ropes from the navigator’s position.

    Roshan (FJ)
    Shan + Humsafar (Pajero)
    Dino (Wrangler)
    Lanson (Tahoe)
    Naveen (Fortuner)
    Vinu + Shehzaad (Xterra)
    Adeel Bhai (Wrangler)
    Suri (FJ)

We entered at 7am, post sun rise, and headed out to Pink Rock, with
Shan leading the way. The intention was to start off with some soft
track driving, slowly moving on to proper dunes.

The recoveries started early with some great work done by Suri with
two bowl recoveries of Dino’s new ride, one towed out, the other
    driven out.

The highlight of the day was when the entire team pitched in to save
one unfortunate tree from my Pajero. Having lost momentum, side
sloping a dune, I had little choice but to steer down, letting gravity
have it’s way. Unfortunately, a poor tree had chosen just that site to
set down some roots. Unable to steer down forwards, I was forced to
reverse down the dune, but with the soft sand making traction
difficult and steering impossible, I was faced with the prospect of
    reversing into the tree.

At this point experience came into play as I was instructed to use low
range to enable crawling and lateral towing force was used to shift
the car’s rear a few inches away from the tree. This was followed by
some very careful steering, pushing and reversing to final clear the
tree with a centimeter to spare… yes, just under one centimeter
between my car and the tree.

This unnerving experience was capped off with some delicious cake
courtesy of Vinu’s wife and daughter. Of course, by then I had lost
any hunger I may have felt prior to the ‘Treegate Incident’.

We then moved on to Big Red, stopping to play and give some campers a
heart attack as they camped out on Big Red with us playing in the sand
a few meters away from them. No risks were taken and we kept our
distance with the intention of not intruding on their privacy.

Credit has to be given to Lanson who showed us that he’s been secretly
improving his driving abilities and will soon be the big man on campus
with his huge ride dwarfing the rest of us on the dunes.

Part of the team moved on to the front side of Big Red, with Naveen
and Roshan staying back to tow Shehzaad + Vinu out of a mini-bowl and
then giving me a hand with my side crested Pajero.

All this was followed by some steaming sada chai with crispy paratha’s
and juicy omelttes, courtesy of Vinu, at Sakhi Restaurant.
