After ongoing tantrums from Shan for the whole week, we did a quick drive yesterday 3rd Jan’09 with just the two of us. My sis and bro joined too in my ride.
We were driving fast and maneuvering more for yesterday’s coffee trip than just a casual drive
It was more of side slope crestings with head on collisions with dune walls yesterday. I was basically trying out my front lift and it proved :-bd. Shan kept up with me except for the side crestings, maneuver’s. :pWe had to call of the drive early coz my sister was feeling dizzy and wanted to throw up 😐
Shan has tremendously increased his skills and knows his vehicle best but that fear factor of breaking bumpers, popouts lies there. Its his daily drive vehicle, and I’m sure I wudnt want to break anything too..
Many thanks for the kind words… practice makes perfect… unfortunately for us ‘married with kids’ folk, practice only comes around once a week, at God forsaken hours… just so that we can be home before the wife & kids are up.
It’s a passion, but perhaps discovered not early enough in life…
As for the manouevers… maybe it’s just the cheapskate in me talking, but I don’t think you should be using your ‘Hammer of Thor’ front bumper to pound through dunes – a little finesse may be well advised.
But then, as I realised yesterday, if you have good traction (been experimenting with tyre pressure…), the thrill is far lower, as there isn’t that little lack of control that keeps the adrenaline pumping.
I’ll be working on my approach angles and dune reading a bit more… practice, practice, practice…
