It was an amazing newbie convoy of 8 cars + myself at lead and Gerry at rescue. You all are welcome to post and share your drive experience.
Today we missed our official photographers for the drive, therefore please upload your clicks……………. :thanks:Al Faqa Drive September 14, 2012 ( Intermediate convoy)
Meeting point Emarat Petrol Pump after Dubai outlet mall at 2 pm all the 3 convoys gathered and left for deflation point at Al Faqa mosque.
Convoys split in Newbee, fewbee and intermediate-Newbee lead by GKumar, Fewbee by Khalil and Intermediate by Ali.
After befriefing by Ali we left to ride the dunes it was an extreme terrain and for me its was very new as was driving the Nisssan Patrol for the first time in Dunes , first ride for around 9 kms and all convoys to meet again at a certain point, the first phase was excellent lead by Ali and sweep by Bu Nasir, very technical one, I really enjoyed the terrain and the patrol too.
After the first phase Ali divided our convoy to 2 buddies each and a coordinate was given to reach and all drivers did very well and reached the destination (coordinates) without any hassle
Ashok & Humayun, Amjed & Andy,Khaled & Sultan and after meeting again the lead to shifted to Bu Nasir( Abdullah ) and we really enjoyed doing the big dunes, side cresting, side sloping and lots of technical things with few stucks including one of mine which were dealt without any issues.
Driving Nissan Patrol was a different experience in Al Faqa and for the very first time too, but was missing my toy (Jeep Wrangler)
Thanks to Ali, Bu Nasir, Sultan and all others who joined us for one of the best drives today and for being safe return in one piece back to home.Sorry if I am missing to mention anyone.
Look forward for next weekend drive and also other comments from fellow drivers too.
Regards
AmjedAl Faqa Drive September 14, 2012 ( Newbee convoy)
Opening line has to be in appreciation of G.Kumar! He picked out perfect dunes for us as newbees to handle and guided us well through the dunes. Well done.. great job as lead driver.
Gerry’s efforts as sweep driver also have to be appreciated. Gerry’s guidance and advice to drivers that needed it at some tricky dunes would have helped them not just today but will help even in the future.
Drive was smooth sailing for the most part except for a tyre pop out on a Jeep Wrangler – yes they sometimes have problems too. Otherwise a very impressive performance by drivers with very limited experience.
Newbee’s performed very well especially in an area with very soft sand. There were a few repeated attempts by some of us which was due to misjudging how soft the sand actually was.
This was a really good learning experience for everyone hoping to get better at off road driving.
As newbees we appreciate your patience and guidance – we strive to do better next week ๐
Also we say this every week – hopefully it will be cooler next week.
G.Kumar and Gerry…….A very big thank you to the both of you.
G. Kumar, one among the greatest challege for you is to pave the path for us new bees…..and it was a great experience for me in particular. The dunes were amazing and the path simply awesome for someone like me who has not been too much in the desert.
It was an amazing drive. You made some really difficult dunes look very easy to accomplish. Hats of to you……Gerry, I must say your role needed a lot of patience and you have done a great job by watching upon all of us and making sure are wheels were spinning. Thank you for making the tyre pop out of my car look so simple. I freaked out the moment that happended. The way you took control of the situation and made the situation a perfect learning for all of us, was simply outstanding.
Great team work and outstanding performance by the new bees……( no one was stuck in the sand).
Happy learning and dune bashing…..
See you all soon…..Cheers,
September 14, 2012 at 8:15 pm #18941Big thanks to both Ali and Abdullah for a really great drive today. You need to have big respect for some of those dunes and know your limits (and your cars too!). At the end of the day i think we all learned a few things today – and more importantly came out safe and sound.
It would be great if we could do some more point to point navigation again in the future – having to pick my own path was quite challenging and demanded a bit more thought than i expected!
See you next week guys.
I’ll start with the summary: Awesome drive, My brand-new best drive ever ๐ (Hope the have yet another new one next week B-) )
As Amjed mentioned we met at Emarat at the Dubai-Al ain highway. continued to deflation point at 2:20 where the rather large group was split into three convoys.
I was in convoy 2 lead by Khalil. Duke was second lead, Jayesh and Ahmed were our sweep I was car nr 3. We hit the sands at 3:00 and side-sloped our way in a fast pace to the meeting point where we met up with Ali’s convoy.Right from the start I noticed that this area is very different to the the area’s we have been driving during the summer. The sand is very soft, the dunes pretty high and long with very steep lee sides in some spots. I liked the challenge of this more difficult terrain.
The rest of the drive we did a lot of side sloping and side cresting. I think everybody performed well, we could keep a nice pace, there were just a few stuck ups and some second attempts.
Khalil :thanks: for the brilliant lead and all other members for the great company.
See you all next week (unless somebody plans a drive tomorrow ๐ )
