    Trip Brief

True to form, Dragon’s Drive started out at 6.45hrs sharp, with deflation at 7.00hrs, followed by a trip brief at 7.15hrs. Nine cars made their way into the sand at 7.17hrs.

Having driven through some dense fog on the way into Tawi Nizwa, there was some apprehension about whether the drive would continue as visibility remained poor. After a few minutes of driving and following the customary ‘first stuck’ of the day (cresting, courtesy of newbie Ali in his LWB Black Paj, recovered by Shan), Dragon told everyone the bad news: no dunes, only tracks, as poor visibility posed a risk of damage to the vehicles – safety first!

Following tracks, we reached the Pink Rock exit quite quickly and decided to turn around and continue with some more track driving and maybe some small dunes, if the weather allowed.

Reaching the Pink Rock Pass was a challenge for some, but a learning experience for all, as we reached the top and stopped for some photography and attempts at climbing a 35+ degree slope. Our regular Coffee Maker earned the highest place on the dune, thanks to his modified FJC, with little driver skill, apart from a heavy right foot. 🙂

The importance of radios came into play as part of the convoy succumbed to the low visibility and was unable to follow. Without taking any chances, Dragon instructed them to move to an agreed location and lead the rest of the convoy back to the base of Pink Rock, where the convoy reassembled and tackled Pink Rock again.

This time a few more cars made it to the top, but some were unable to make it and it was decided to move to a small play area and take advantage of the lifting fog and the remaining time.

The convoy exited at 9.30hrs after a relaxing early morning drive, looking forward to next week, when hopefully visibility will be better and we can have some more fun!

    Ahmed ,
just wanted to check with you again. where i could get the sand flag like the one that you have. Is it removable to be used when going off road only.
