My preference would be to Camp…preferably a little distance away from the Motel,
but maybe I will stick closeby, if the majority are in the Chalets.Have booked three furnished apartments in Jabal Akhdar for the trip. Each apartment has three bedrooms and a hall. We can also cook our own meals in the kitchen. Each flat is costing us OR40 each. Two families can share one flat… so it works out to OR20 per family. We can book more of these on or before the 22nd of March. So please confirm your participation on or before the 20th of March so that we can plan the trip accordingly.
So we will not be staying at the Motel in Jabal Akhdar… but at the furnished apartments in Jabal Akhdar.
Here’s a list of things I usually carry on such trips:
Ice box (with ice and assorted cold drinks, water etc).
Sleeping Bags / Quilts
Personal Medication: Panadol for general use
Emergency First Aid kit
Food for self + 20% extra
Torch
Camping Chairs
Folding table
Disposable Paper Plates, Spoons, Cups
Tea, Coffee, Sugar and milk (for the morning cuppa)
Warm clothes
Towels, Extra box of tissue paper
Personal Care Kit: Toothbrush, toothpaste, toothpick, Sun block, moisturising lotion, etc.
Personal Ruin Kit: Cigar, Booze… 😉thanks Naved and anil for working out the staying arrangements:

We’ll have our base camp at Jabal Akhdar (where we’ll be staying in furnished apartments) and will be exploring the nearby areas including Jabal Shams. Its not too far from Jabal Akhdar.
The trip will take you through many scenic areas and some adventure activities are also planned for those so inclined. To sum it up, the tentative POA will be something like this:
Early start around 7 from Dubai and cross over to Oman at the Hatta border
Road drive till Rustaq
Wadi drive thru wadi Bani Awf
beautiful mountain village oasis of Bilat Sayt
Steep mountain drive thru Wadi Haat and Al Hamra and Tanuf
Drive up to Jebel Akdhar summit
Stay the night at furnished apartments pre-booked at Jabal AKhdarSaturday: One or more following optional activities as you feel like:
Hiking
Trek thru the picturesque mountain villages
explore the local surroundings
Visit to Nizwa fort, the biggest and well restored fort in Oman and Nizwa SouqSunday:
Depart from Jebel Akdhar after breakfast
Wadi drive thru wadi Ghul
Visit Beehive tombs of Bat
Join the highway 21 at Dank
Enter UAE from AlainI suggest all those wanting to join this trip confirm their participation before the 23rd of March as availability of furnished apartments cannot be guaranteed after that. Or else, carry your tents and enjoy the pleasures of the outdoors…
March 22, 2009 at 10:20 am #10367Adeel Bhai, I do not want to miss this oppurtunity for camping…It will be nice…if it is not very cold.
I did camp at Jebel Shams last year around winter time. It was cold but if one is prepared then its not a problem.
So r u camping Ahmed Bhai?? Camping season is almost over in the UAE and we’ll have to go to these couple of Jebels to camp in the next 7-8 months, so it would be a good opportunity.
Though, I dont know how it would work, with some people camping and some in the apartment 😕
I would like to Join (ME and Wife), but I have some questions / concerns,
– My wife’s passport will expire on 09.04.2009, so will they allow her to go and come back on 3 and 4th April respectively.
– Very short on Budget, so would like to camp, I have the camp purchased from Carefoure (camp for 3) the blue one, will this work, an I don’t have sleeping bag, I will bring Blankets instead.
– I will be joining for 2 days, unless there is a holiday on Sunday, which I suppose is not the case.
– Just want to have an Idea how much total expense will be for two persons if we camp.I appreciate your guidance.

Your camp should be fine but I would recommend buying the sleeping mats (cheap ones @ AED10 would do). Bringing blankets or comforters would be fine too. I dont think so there would be any expense for camping as far as I know but correct me if someone knows more about it. There should be a choice to camp free or by paying, I suppose.
Regarding passport expiry, usually border crossings is allowed with passport validity of 6 months but going to Oman might be different so cant really comment. Your best bet is to call the Oman Embassy and ask them this question, rather I would suggest if you get time get the visa stamped so to make sure u r not met by any surprise at the border.
March 22, 2009 at 12:47 pm #10374I think Adeel Bhai is right.
Ali, you should try & get the new visa stamped ASAP,
it will be very dis appointing, if they refuse the visa on the border.I am definitely camping, we can manage, but proper accomodation may be required for the ladies travelling with us.

getting visa is not a worry for me, if the Oman post dont stamp the visa, I dont mind coming back, but the thing I am worried is, that will UAE post allow her to enter back in UAE with only 4 dahys left in expirhy, logically, there should not be any problem, since she she has valid pasport and visa.

u can check that info with the immigration department. also do check with oman consulate if they have any issues as well. since it will be disheartening if you make all arrangements and go till border and come back.
March 22, 2009 at 2:47 pm #10378That’s right Stanley,
better prepared than sorry…Good idea to get a confirmation prior to the scheduled trip.
