With dawn just creeping over the horizon, the moon still hanging above, a small band of early birds crouched against the cool morning air deflating 90km warm tires. A warm cuppa in hand, hellos and gear talk to occupy us, we patiently waited for the group to form. A great start to what turned out to be a very good morning drive.Having been organised into to convoys by our patient Marshal’s Kumar & Thansheer & lead drivers Ganesh, Ashok and Amjed we set off into the growing daylight. With good company, in a tight group & few stickies, quite fast progress was made via Fossil Rock, Camel Rock over to the saddle, where Ganesh did the photo op for the trip, Amjed defied gravity with a quick spin down the ridge and the rest of us took in the view whilst Kumar regaled us with DO history and the death of a Nissan on the bowl in front of us!
A few of the group left at the first exit whilst the rest of the band crossed the tarmac and drove off between tracks, camels and dunes towards Pink Rock where we dallied for a short while to enjoy the scenery and swap stories. With Kumar and Ganesh in the lead and Thanseer, Ashok and Amjed riding shotgun our happy band of drivers bashed our way out to Nazwa and the inflation point. A very good drive, where old friends met again, new friends made new friends and we all grew together …… all thanks to the DO organisation.
:thanks: :thanks: Brianj, excellent report and happy to note you had good fun & enjoyed the drive today, hope to see you again & again for all the drives.

We are here just for fun…hence we always ensure we have it enough, every time we go out there in sands :ymblushing: :drive:Another wonderful winter morning drive :-BD :drive: Nice report from Brian covering all key elements, so nothing much for me to add :ymapplause: May only Dada can sum up more details :-BD
It was a very nice gathering of early birds, enjoying the awesome morning chillness, freshness and energy 🙂 🙂 We had two convoys – Fewbee and Intermediate. Also today our senior members were at task in managing the convoy and all of them did an excellent job ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^
Ashok led the intermediate convoy to Fossil and Camel Rock effortlessly with the support of Amjed at second lead :-BD I didnt had any task at sweep and was enjoying the free drive. Excellent job Ashok & Amjed :ymapplause:
Fewbee convoy was led by Thanseer with Dada in full control at sweep :ymapplause:
From Camel Rock I took over the lead of intermediate convoy to saddle point. Everybody made it to the top of saddle point, easily and safe. Spend enough time sharing stories and for pictures, climbed saddle point from the side and a quick down ride through the ridge 🙂
Both the convoys merged together and headed to Pink Rock. Had few hesitations all the way in dunes which were quickly resolved by our experts under the careful supervision of Brigadier SIR. Very safely and happily reached Tawi by around 12pm, inflated and headed to GNFD Office :-BD 🙂
Excellent driving by all intermediate convoy memebers – Tyn, Brian, Nikkie, Musbah, Shabeer and Jason :-BD :ymapplause:
Thank you all for joining this drive and look forward to see you all again in sands very soon 🙂 :-BD
Drive safe, have good fun :drive:
Thanks Everyone for a great day. Met new people, made new friends and seeing my passion of driving in desert :drive: being reality.
I am so happy for the 1st time I was in the intermediate convoy :yesss: 😀 😉 . :thanks: KumarI will miss you’ll as I am going on vacation 🙁 and looking eagerly 🙂 for a FEWBEE++ TO INTERMEDIATE drive :ymblushing: after I am back from vaction.. 😀
Thanks Kumar, Thansheer, Ganesh, Ashok and Amjed. :thanks:

Longitude:55º 39′ 44″ ETyn was the first to be at the meeting point chilling out and I joined Tyn with a hot coffee offered by Tyn and later all the drivers joined at the meeting point, it was pleasant to see so many enthusiastic offroaders at the early hours to drive.
The convoy was dived to two a Fewbee & intermediate, Kumar asked me to lead but i was hesitant to lead, Ashok was given to lead the Intermediate convoy and the Fewbee convoy was led by our SIR Thanseer with Dada ( Ganesh ) as sweep. Ashok took the convey in an excellent track with small, soft & trick dunes to high approach where all did an excellent drive.
After reaching Fossil Rock for a break, we did intend to do the fossile rock but as the whole area was dug up with quad bikes & buggies we dropped the idea and headed towards Camel Rock & did play for awhile. Kumar took the lead from CamelRock to AlFaya as all drivers requested to do some high dunes and everyone did an awesome drive.
Reached Saddlepoint for break and photosession and later all did the Alfaya drop & enjoyed it , where as myself & Kumar did the ride through the ridge .
This drive was supposed to be a warmup drive as we had many new faces so the initial route was from Khatam to AlFaya and exit from there back to home but after seeing the drives performance and enough time left , we decided to end the drive at Tawi Nizwa through Pinkrock, it was fun driving through big dunes with very few retries and obstacles.I was very happy to see all the drivers specially the ones who were newbee excellent driving and confidence build-up to grow as skilled offroaders very soon.
Thanks to SIR, Kumar, Ashok, Ganesh, Tyn, Brian,Musbah, Shabeer, Jason, David,Mehboob,Nisar, sorry if im missing anyone.Look forward to see you again for the next drive, keep driving safe & enjoy.
Excellent report from Kumar, Brian & Amjed…You guys have covered mostly everything….now its my turn to fill up the blanks 😀 😀
It was indeed a very nice chilled morning and to see so many cars for the morning drive… :ymapplause:
Myself and Ashok reached a bit late…sorry guys for that…As Kumar mentioned the convoy was divided into two groups – Fewbee and Intermediate..
I think even the fewbee drive was dealt with an intermediate level by the lead marshal Thanseer…
It was very nice to see many new faces especially for me…We welcome Saj, Nisar and Thomas to our group….The Fewbee convoy which was supported by myself at sweep, we had 6 cars – Thanseer as the lead, followed by David with his fortuner as the second car, Thomas with his Pajero, Saj with his H3, Nissar with the well modified Jeep and myself with my stock at the sweep….
The lead did a fantastic job considering the driving skills of our new members and gradually increased the level….Some basic technical guidance was provided to Thomas about his Pajero….this is the best thing of our club guys….one gets to know the technicalities of his own car from our well experienced marshals on board….We reached Fossil rock and then were planning to skid through the fall…but the area was too risky beacuse of the rocks which can damage lots of car’s chassis and so the two lead marshals decided to lead their convoy in different routes to Camel rock….
Once we reached Camel rock…we played around there for a while and then proceeded to the Saddle point….In regular intervals Thanseer was continuously sending message to the convoy to maintain the distance and gear up the momentum whenever we had a one-stretch climb…Since we had three of our cars without the radio…we had to manage the communication between the lead, David and myself…
David tried a couple to attempts to reach the top of saddle point from backside and due to very very soft sand it was getting tough… I decided to make a different route for everyone and we reached the top of the saddle point through the other side….david was unable to reach…by nevertheless he tried his best…No probs David….theres always a second chance….you wont believe…I have touched the Iftar bowl and the saddle point maybe after plenty of drives….so theres nothing to worry about….these dunes are always there and we have plenty of more opportunities to touch them 🙂
Thanseer was stuck on a crest and was rescued by Kumar and the entire convoy of nearly 15 cars i guess were on top of the saddle point for a nice picture (uploaded on facebook)…at 10.30am we started moving out from there as planned by the lead marshals in one single convoy…We were to reach Tawi shops for inflaing the tyres…and as we had some more time…Thanseer decided to take the dunes via Pink rock to reach Tawi….
There were some minor stucks but thats the fun….and then behind the Pink rock…Shabeer’s car was stuck…As a sweep’s job..I tried all the options I thought and then called for Kumar and Thanseer to get his car out as the area was very soft and no car would have got the momentum to pull him out…So as we always say…Our Marshals are the best in their rescue operations….Shabeer’s car was pulled out by connecting 3 ropes to Ashok’s Patrol…
Then we all followed Kumar and reached Tawi shops by 12.15, inflated the tyres…thanked everyone for the wonderful experience and drove back home…Kumar, myself and Ashok went to Gulf News office to collect our Fun Drive packs…
Thanks a ton to entire group for such an exciting drive….Saj, Nissar and Thomas…you guys drove absolutely good :ymapplause: ….David, your driving skills are unquestionable apart from your car’s power…but my brother the skill of a driver makes even a corolla fly in the desert….The more you believe in your car…you will enjoy the fun….
Thank you Thanseer and Kumar for the excellent lead and special thanks to Ashok and Amjed for all the support provided.. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymhug:
Thank you Brian for your sweet words and it was indeed my pleasure meeting you too….We need such co-operation and commitment from all of you to make our future drives successful with a BANNNGGGGGGGG…….
See you all for another drive….till then….Allah Nigehbaan…..
Cheers :-BD
Thank you Kumar, Amjed, Brian and Ganesh for your detailed reports……. :thanks: :thanks:
We all recapped the entire moments ……. :yesss: :yesss:
Thanks you guys for the great company….. :drive: :drive:
