Thanks to all the participants for the enthusiastic response!!!
I am, over all, glad on how the drive turned out and almost everybody drove very well.
Thanks to Satwinder’s and G Kumar’s enthusiastic and expert support to keep the convoy rolling.
Most of the Northern Emirates are with a higher vegetation rate due to the heavier precipitation rate as well as the proximity of the sea as the peninsula progressively narrows down towards North / North East.
This gives rise to some very non desert type of landscapes including grass lands and tree groves…which are especially verdant after the rains…which, unfortunately, were below average this year.
I understand that some of the drivers would have preferred a more adventurous drive rather than the tracks that we mostly did…
What one has to understand is that the drive can always be configured according to the convoy requirements…there are some very challenging Dunes in the same area…but we had to avoid them bearing in mind the number of cars in the convoy and the fact that we had only 2 support vehicles.
I tried traversing a more daring route a couple of times but then had to desist after some of the drivers had stucks and the convoy was delayed.
We can perhaps, have an 2+ Stars type of intermediate to advanced drive in the same area, sometime later, to really explore these Dunes. As Chief and Ganesh reported.. overall it was an awesome drive and a different off-road experience. While posting the drive, Ahmed Bhai mentioned that it is going to be an “Exploration drive with medium difficulty… ” It was true in all aspects…
This drive was a different experience and a pleasant surprise to drive along the green vegetation and tree groves. Normally we were always used to experience vast sand terrain and barren lands. Therefore no doubt that this drive was for a change…..
The drive started from Interchange 10 at Sharjah – Dhaid highway towards North, mainly through tracks in a bushy terrain, few climbs and steep drops to add spice to the drive. Though the convoy was of 18 cars, everybody drove well and relatively an easy day for myself and Sattu paaji in the sweep. Except a truck got struck at bush, to pull out by rope there were no other troubles other than few repeated attempts to overcome the climb.
Though it was briefed at the beginning of the drive that the end point is going to be near to Umm Al Quain camel race track, I was happy to observe in GPS during the drive that crossing UAQ we were heading towards RAK. The drive ended at 7.15pm at RAK Airport Road, 5.5kms far from Emirates Road, exit 119 covering a total distance of 63kms. I would like to call the last phase of the drive as “vehicle scan” to identify all those lose fittings, nuts & bolts ๐
Good job by everybody :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: and happy to see couple of senior members back in action ๐ :yesss: it will be a good idea for an intermediate to advanced drive, in the same route but through dunes. In this route, if the lead marshal is in jeep, its going to be a sweaty drive…. ๐
