Today was a great day for DO. Our meeting time was 1330 but we didn’t get kicked off until a little after 1400 as we had many, many new faces and it took a bit of time to separate everyone into their respective convoys. It is great to see so many new folks joining DO for their first experiences in the dunes. Al Shuwaib was quite a hike to get there and probably the first time for most of us in that area. It was worth it though as the dune proved to be very enticing with varied types of small technical dunes and large open ones. Also, we were able to lay the first tracks most of the way.
The fewbee convoy was led by Abdalla with Joe and Sasha sweeping. The desert was quite hot for the first half of the trip as the sun was beaming down from above. This created soft sand in many areas and ensured that we had our appropriate numbers of stucks and second attempts. Aside from this we had no major issues: no pop-outs, no mechanical problems, etc. We just had a lot of sand flying around and big grinning smiles from ear to ear for everyone. Abdalla did a great job of escorting us all over the desert from Al Shuwaib to our exit of Al Faqaa clocking in 35 KM in just under 3 hours. We had about 10-12 cars in total in our convoy and by the time we exited to inflate our tires the whole crew was exhilarated from great trips up and down the dunes all afternoon.
A huge thanks to our marshals for yet another great DO dune bashing afternoon!! :thanks: :thanks:
See you all on the sands soon!!
