    Guys,

Could you pls clarify which is the standard format used in Garmin Gps.

The reason for this question we have received coordinates from Marshalls in the past with different formats.

    – h ddd mm’ ss.s”
    – h ddd mm.mmm’
    – h ddd.ddddd

In order to be uniform and unique and to avoid any intricacies in the last minute to reach the meeting point, it would be idealistic that we have a uniform format in our group.

Awaiting your thoughts on this pls..

    These two are regularly used

    h ddd mm’ ss.s” v h ddd.ddddd

I would recommend Formats 1 or 3 to be used as standard for all future use. As they are available to the layman aswell (Courtsey Google maps), without scratching the head a lot.

I suggested the same time ago. Why not use ONE format? Pick one and stay with it. One that fits Garmin and google. When I receive coordinates, always have the same problem. Google send me to one place and Garmin to another. Why do we have to convert? Please….let’s make our life easier….we are here JUST FOR FUN! :thanks:

I think we should be thinking about making things harder and not easier. See it this way, you are a Colonel, and someone calls you for help. Has no clue what different formats mean. Are you going to tell him, “Hey sorry, but I don’t know what you mean. I have never worked with those coordinates!”. He will think whoever taught you navigation doesn’t have a clue about it too. And what if that guy is with his family and alone. You will call one of the other marshals of DO but does it look nice that you do not know what to do? Newbie drives are given out with maps anyway, I think all the formats should be used at random when giving meeting points on all intermediate drives or advanced drives, so that you are equally comfortable with all the scenarios that can be presented to you. This is a dangerous sport. Something like flying, difference being flying is much more calculated and only professionals after extensive training can fly. Hence, to sum up, this is more dangerous than flying. I do not think we should be looking to make things easy for our majors. Things should be made more and more difficult! ๐Ÿ˜€
