I suggest that all members standardize their GPS equipment coordinates to the following common format:
GPS Unit: Location format – hdddºmm.mmm’
e.g. N 24º56.003′ E055º42.559′
MapSource: Lat/Lon hdddºmm.mmm’
(Edit->Preferences->Position->Grid)
This can avoid in the future to miss rescue location of the member in trouble, when giving coordinates over the radio. Not synchronized units can lead to several kilometres deviation off the target.
I second you on this. Whatever format the majority decides should be used by all. That helps avoiding any sort of confusions.
By the way here is a very useful website that can convert your different formats. In addition it does quite a few other things….explore….
I hope this will help.
I agree with you, but we have to agree on some format. I think that my suggestion is coming as default with every new Garmin and also MapSource has this as default. I purchased mine 5 years back, so I do’t remember what was default.
Maybe admin can establish some voting and propose some other formats.
