January 16, 2010 at 5:31 am #12478The Drive was a blast!!!
We all had loads of fun :ymparty: :ymparty: :ymparty:I have been associated with Gulf News Fun Drive for more than ten years now,
even then each & every time I am amazed & a little petrified at the amount of Organizational & logistical effort that goes into conducting such an event. The Route Preparation, commercial planning, Logistics & related paperwork must start almost 6-8 months prior to the event.
Jehanbaz Ali Khan, Jum, to all who know him has been the Route Director for the event since it’s inception.
I am proud to say that most of my off-roading skills were learnt driving behind Jum on the numerous Marshal Runs over the years. Thanks to Naheed, Dileep & their whole team, all of whom are literally on their toes for almost a week, the event takes place smoothly to everyone’s delight.
I mean…can you imagine 800 cars & probably 5000 people in a single event!!!
This annual event is almost like a must do on Dubai’s social calendar!!!
It takes place every year…some years have even seen two events…an overnighter & a Day Drive.Kudos & Thanks!!!
January 18, 2010 at 10:44 am #12491This route was essentially designed for Punters…
some of whom may not even know how to put their cars in 4WD ๐ฎ ๐ฎ ๐ฎNot for Dubai Off-roaders who thrash Badayer Dunes every Friday Morning before Coffee:-? ๐ ๐
There are actual problems in the logistics of organizing such a drive since you have to chart a route to keep the participants busy for at least six hours.
One obviously cannot have a route with all Dunes!!!
Offer them a more difficult route & you will have participants actually bail out & go home!!!
I have personally witnessed it happening on a few drives 8-|So a very careful balance of ease & challenges has to be maintained.
