Good to see all the reports… I am sure you all had fun at different levels…

As mentioned earlier I started early with the flag off at around 8 am… Completed all the 7 sectors and reached the cut-off point at 1:15 pm collected the route map for the next 2 sectors, filled petrol and then back into sectors 8 and 9… Completed all the sectors and reached the campsite at 3:30 pm… Dropped some bags / reserved a tent / left my son there and went near the Liasali Eppco fuel station to pick my rest of the family (who came by taxi up to this point)… Back at the camp site at 5pm… Had real good fun at the camp site (dinner, entertainment, bonfire, etc.)… Next day had breakfast and left the campsite at around 10 am…

The best sectors were 5, 6, 7 and 8… The 9th sector of 43 km had only about 3 km of good desert drive… Overall I liked and enjoyed the entire route…

Looking forward to the Jeep Jamboree coming Friday – 18 Jan’13… Any DO convoy planned for this also???

It was a clean decision that i opted for GNFD for the first time and that too for a world record, The terrain was challenging looks like Advanced or Intermediate in some area, Entirely different & hard from what we had done with DO drives, But the drives with DO keep on reminding each step i take and we feel that its just simple like the way we do in DO. Bowls…bowls after bowls…stuck after stuck…everyone got stuck except the wild warriors like Tiger, Hulk and other’s. ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ I got stuck for no reason in a easy area, The culprit was 4L, Shibu came with his Patrol and pulled me out… :ymapplause: :ymapplause: but a big bowl was waiting for all….When we reached the edge of the bowl its full of cars a land cruiser, then pajero, then prado all were just dropping to the bowl in no time..We had a long wait at the top for taking a different route during the time Shibu’s patrol dig the sand and it was belly down and recovered by marshalls… B-) it was soft sand so it caught my 2.7 Ltr but my “Made in China” Sand traction mat came for help and we recovered properly and gone to the valley to do a fly above the bowl, We got the momentum and slide the bowl in gravity and joined the group with Hulk, Firoz, Land Cruiser (White), Shabeer, Zarir & Razik. We then routed by Marshall as said by Zarir in prvious post, but we were looking for Shibu (Nissan Patrol) to follow and no communication thereafter, We left him with hulk and others so that there will be no difficulties…..We 5 were gone to take a challenge to reach the campsite before sunset, but the way was full of bowls and soft dunes….however all managed to cover the bowls and i was the only one stopped before the bowl and got a chance to deviate the route and i was literally jumping the bowl edges, If missed it’s a mishap, But we were confident that the same model vehicle has already passed through the area…Jumped correctly but landed in another soft sinking bowl, We came out and done some calculations and was taking REV-FWD for 12 time to get the correct track to get momentum to reach the top, Finally we got the track and reached till the top but stopped, Again same route and landed on top…During this time Shabeer just climbed the 90 degree bowl in a single strech, wow that was remarkable O:-) :ymapplause: :ymapplause: Razik was trying everything to get out but it was belly down, Some marshalls were at help and Zarir also recovered followed by Firoz’s popouts and 4 Joined together except me as i was taking the momentum inside a soft sinking bowl for 40 Minutes….I got a GN marshall with me, So we got seperated safely.

When Zarir asked for group of 5 Cars in a convoy, without “No support like DO” we don’t have a double mind, We are in for GNFD and again only IN for anything we came accross, That were we called DO‘s :yesss: :yesss: :yesss:

Zarir : You have good terrain control knowledge and that’s make you to cross all the bowls and gives a confidence to us
Razik : Your drive shows like experienced and regular offroader with absolute discipline and patience with excellent communications
Firoz : Remarkable support and with on the sport recoveries and terrain commentary, Applause to the co-pilot & Kidos as they got some remarkable knowledge about the desert and stuffs…even safety of other for pulling the big rock that caused the popout
Shabeer : You need to ask for a TV promo in association with Suzuki, No body else is doing the same as you do with your Vitara. Even jeeps were struggling on the bowl but you are the only one to have a self recovery

Thanks to all Marshall’s, accompanied DO members and Newbies for making the event a memorable one.

Note : We at DO the convoy discipline and communications stuffs are maintained as possible, Some of the newbies were literally jamming the walkie-talkies with some general chit-chats, comments on the same time others are in the middle of dangers…So at least next GNFD we need to be very careful when announcing our channel frequency and keeping newbies with us by respecting the safety of DO members

Artistic impression about the Bowls we cover

Hi Bala, we took the huge responsibility and commitment of taking a big group of newbies and first timers with us in this tough and spoiled terrain :-BD.
I once again thank all our senior members and Marshals for driving with DO convoy, sacrificing their fun to support our fellow offroaders, despite the event being a paid one ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Had it been our selected DO convoy, for sure we would have reached the campsite, covering all check points in 3 to 4 hours :-BD In the recent past, we did many successful drives at Al Faqqa and Lisaili areas, which were GNFD stages of 5,6.7,8,9.

    Dear G Kumar,

I am extremely sorry if I offended any of the DO members by my enquiry (it appears from your response)… I am 100% sure that many of the DO members could have done these (GNFD tracks) and much more challenging tracks with ease… Just wanted to check out of curiousity and nothing else… Sorry once again… :-s :-s :-s

Dont worry Bala and dont feel sorry. You have not offended anybody with your query and my response was also not in that direction ๐Ÿ™‚

On reading your query, I recalled the support and contributions of DO seniors and marshals during GNDF, to the newbies and first timers, braving the bad weather. I am sure, all of them could have done GNFD track very comfortably as most of them successfully did that terrain more than once. I couldn’t stop myself from thanking them for the sacrifice and efforts, keeping our motto high :-BD
