Hi All,
Thanks for joining me in the Dubai Offroaders group. Below is a brief note about me and after that is the (long) story which brought me to this group ๐
Name: Karthik
Vehicle: Nissan Patrol SE (Y62). Just a month old as I upgraded from a sedan to 4×4.
Occupation: Product Specialist
Offroading: 2 times and the complete story is below.Stage 1 : Sand dune between Muhaisnah and Sharjah University
Vehicle : Hyundai Tucson 4×4.
Story : Emirates road fully blocked and so I followed some Patrols and Prados to this area. All of them just breezed across the dune and entered Sharjah. Flicked the 4wd button on and went straight up the dune at 60kmph. Violently turned the steering left and right to get traction and all of a sudden saw a huge drop in front of me. Hit the brakes and it was a perfect stop. Front two wheels in air and back two wheels had dug deep into the sand. 0 movement and all wheels were rotating free. A kind offroader came to my rescue and he was even more kind enough to show me a demonstration of how to drive on the dunes.Stage 2 : Sand dune between Emirates Road and Dreamland Aqua Park, UAQ
Vehicle : Nissan Patrol
Story: Saw a Audi Q7 stuck in the sand and immediately wanted to help. Bought a 35 dirham tow cable from Eppco and went to the rescue. Reversed into full sand with 35psi air pressure. 2 minutes later realised i was getting stuck while trying to pull the Audi out. Removed the tow cable and managed to get the car out. Reduced air pressure to 30psi with my own imagination and reversed again to get stuck even proper. Realised I am not going anywhere and found a Jeep Wrangler who rescued me. It was a whole other drama to get the Audi out.Moral of the story :
1. Never enter sand without knowing basics.
2. Never offer help without knowing how to help yourself.
3. Its the driver and experience which count and not how big or expensive your vehicle is.
4. Learn to offroad safe and do it the right way.
5. Learn to respect the desert and the vehicle.
6. Join Dubai Offroaders to enjoy and learn what to do, why do to and most importantly, how to do it.. the right way ๐So here I am folks… Sorry for the long intro but I couldn’t resist sharing this so that other first timers realise than do something wrong or even worse, dangerous…
Regards,
Karthik

Vehicle: Toyota Prado 2013 (poverty pack) No mods.
Occupation: Banker
Offroading: Not much, have owned plenty of SUV’s and soft roaders and would like to learn how to explore the desert’s around Dubai.Have just moved back to Dubai (3rd time living here) from South Africa – did lots of Safari in Africa so would like to continue to spend some time in the bush. I grew up in the Aussie bush so I guess its never left me. I love my family, Top Gear, Rugby, Photography and cooking – in that order I hasten to add.
