Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced, garage that can repair my Wrangler. It overheated yesterday and I think there has been some quite significant damage done. The car will also need recovering, so if the garage has a recovery service that would help.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Alastair – what model your Wrangler is?
You know, if it has a head gasket blown, or some big issues at the engine (pistons, rings, valves, shafts etc) which needs replacement, it would make more sense (monetary, timely & peace-of-mind-itary) to replace the whole engine with a used one… these jobs need to be performed by highly trained specialists, for which there is a lack on the market.
One of my previous cars (hatchback) had a hole in the piston and head gasket blown, the cost to fix was close to the car market price, and needed more than 2 weeks work, so I got the whole engine (low km) for 3k including fitting in less than 1 day.

not to hijack the thread, but hopefully you guys can help. I will be coming out there in the next few months with a 2012 Wrangler. I am planning to do some more upgrades. Particularly gearing and axles. Is there a shop, a GOOD shop, out there that can do regearing? When thousandths of an inch make or break the gears, i am not trusting of very many people. looking to go from 3.73 to 4.88 gears. THANKS GUYS!

    Hi Dave
There is noone reliable to do the job (properly), if you consider replacing ring & pinion alone… Our Marshall Joe has done it himself on his Pajero for the same reason… its really a PITA doing it…
The quick and safe way is to find a scrap yard and pull complete axles (maybe by giving back yours) and any getto garage can do swapping

    Good luck!

that is what i was afraid of. I am gonna upgrade to a PR44 front end, but was hoping to keep my current rear diff….but was looking to regear to match instead of buying a new axle for the rear as well……guess that puts me back a bit on the timeline ๐Ÿ™
    thank you for the help!

    Hi Dave,
this shouldnt be much of an issue nor a PITA, especially for wranglers…
just find the matching front and rear ring and pinion sets, new bearings and a set of shims. from there on, any reputable 4×4 garage will be able to fit and calibrate it for you.
keep in mind that its a must for front and rear RP to have matching ratios!

    cheers

ah…so there ARE shops that can do it out there? I figured you guys would know the best most reliable shops out there… ๐Ÿ™‚ can always count on offroaders to know good mechanics. lol

lets hope some owners of modified wranglers out there can chip in on this one.
i have personally done this job on my own, since the price was quite steep at the garages ive checked. mostly because unlike a wrangler, the job on an independent front and rear suspension pajero is quite a lot of work. however, ramy 4X4, dollar auto and icon auto to name a few, confirmed back then that they where able to do this job. you can also check at AEV and offroadzone.

    good luck Dave…
