A leader is a leader is a leader.
When leader lead we all follow and trust him completely. Whether we succeed or fail we dont care we just follow the leader and keep driving watching his rear wheel tracks and always keep him in sight.
Just like an offroading, following, self recovery, recovering others etc, leading is also a skill or moreover an art in which leader takes several things into the consideration before start till end.
After leading some good and some bad trips i think i can share my little knowledge with fellow offroaders who definitely wanna lead but always have double mind or scared of failure or disasters.
My this trip is dedicated to all those people who thinks themselve at intermediate level or close to intermediate skills, should join this trip. I am planning to take the convoy in a decent intermediate zone and every joinee of the trip will get an opportunity to lead a piece of route.
You will be properly briefed and explained in what to do and how to make ur life easy and keep everybody safe and rolling. And i will be the second car and we will keep changing our leader and probably some of you who has more experience can also join and help me in this.
I am doing this as i have never got LUCKY with this kind of opportunity but always wished for one. I have learned everything accidently by myself and that too by Hard Way…..!
Leader’s Lead
Date: 25th Oct 2008, Saturday.
Meeting Time: 2.00 PM
Place: Will decide close to date and as per cars joining.
Meeting Point: TBA
End: By 7ish.Following are advantage of leading
You can be independent.
You can make ur own trips.
You can choose to make the trip of place that you like.
You can set ur own speed of driving.
You can learn to behave more responsibly and more calculatively.
You will get guaranted respect, if u do lead seriously.Isnt this much advantages are enough to join this and learn….. ๐
Ok, then best leader will get on the spot surprise gift from me…..!
I’m recruiting newbies for the drive (if it happens).
How many cars at a minimum to get a Marshal?I’ve got 2 confirmed, 1 tentative as yet.
May be able to get one more – making it 4 cars excl Marshal.Preferred time – morning slot – 7/8ish.
01. Sahmed, Pajero 2008, +1pax
02. Mansoor, Pajero 2008
03. Hussain, Grand Cherokee 2000 (tentative)
04. In progressBack to the recruiting drive!
Cheers!quote Sahmed:I’m recruiting newbies for the drive (if it happens).

Cheers! If no leader comes ill come, i think i can free myself by lil strecthing.
quote Sahmed:Oops – did I forget to mention I was recruiting for Fri 24 at 7/8ish?If we can’t get a marshall for friday, then I’ll see about getting newbies for Saturday.
Tell newbies for the situation and be ready to switch days. If u dont get somebody for Friday and sat morning, then i will do it on sat morning as friday im doing wadi trip.
I hope this trip is still on… as I might b joining this one cause I’ve to miss the friday one due to personal reasons.
My jeep is going for service sat morning and am hoping to get it by afternoon if so I’ll join in.I happened to interact with an off roading club in Karachi and a few of their members are visiting Dubai from tomorrow. I’ve invited them for this drive….I hope u guys wont mind that and will be able to accommodate if my jeep is not ready until then.
We could also discuss some sort of strategic alliance with them through which they could come for some trips and we could go there for some trips…
Imran: Dude Chillex.
You missed such a big smiley ha ha. For a joking comment.
Whatever u said, it was right abt being knowing how to lead. But it does not have any relevance that you lead or not after this trip, or by knowing how to lead doesnt compell u or me to lead.
Its for our own judgement and adding another skill is always better. Sometime if u r lost out of track in convoy, u can lead ur urself rather than waiting for somebody to show u way. Its an approach how u take it and how u use it. Leading usually is NEVER fun its more responsibility and less fun. But if we all sit and wait for marshalls to organize a trip then i dont think its a good idea. Its a club where nobody gets paid to drive so why not share that extra responsibility sometime to pay back the club. Its just a way to share things in club. I guess.
I am glad that you joined me in my trips w/o knowing much abt me in organising trips. I dont know whether u liked it or not any trip. But i believe before knowing a person or trip time and place, joinee should always consider the HEADING of the trip. Ex: one should not join newbie trip expecting to have some big rolling dunes fun. One should not join exploration trip expecting that leader must have been there to mark the track of nice dunes. If person understand the heading and then adjust his expectation im sure u will even enjoy newbies drives.
Look at recent example of wadi trip. When we go offroad anything is expected. Breaking ur car in two pieces, Injuring anybody, getting stuck with miserable recoveries for hrs, getting offroute, losing any member and tracking him back for hrs.
We all like the uncertainities of offroading thats why we go out together, but i guess my last trip people expected too much without having any consideration, mindset & cooperation. As when i went alone within 15 – 20 mins i was at mountain entrance point. We were within 1.6 km radius from same point when we gave up. After that mountain entrance point there was nothing much to navigate as mountain automatically take u up and brings u down with amazing drive exp and with beautiful scenic moments. It was only wadi which was sticky coz of few closures, detour and offroute.
Anyways, coming back to leading topic. Its not at all must that all should know how to lead, and all should lead who knows how to lead. This trip was more of a casual way to introducing how to lead, where person can afford to do mistakes and learn from it. Rem in Lisali trip u lead for few mins casually (w/o considering convoy capabilities), this trip was supposed to be that causual and we supposed to learn from it (including me) by seeing each other approach to find a way considering the capabilities of whole convoy.
May be when i come back from my business trip we should consider this leading trip again.
Btw i also marked a TARMAC right close to mountain with only one straight road from wadi to the mountain tip……. =p~
