We recommend that you purchase offroad gear from reputable shops, eg ACE, Speedex, Ramy 4×4, Dubai 4×4 or some shops in Dragon Mart.
Do not buy from hyper/super markets such as Carrefour or Geant.
Prices are indicative minimums as of Dec09.Newbie:
– vehicle manual
– spare tire, inflated to road pressure
– tyre changing tools
– jack
– 2ltr water per personFewbie:
– all of the above
– offroad insurance AEDXXX (??) – incl in AXA Comprehensive as standard
– pressure gauge AED35-50 from ACE (check car toolkit, maybe included)
– deflation tool AED25 from any tire shop (contact Sahmed if required)
– tow rope AED175 approx from ACE (depends on tonnage capacity – recommended car weight x2) – do not but chains
– shackles AED25/ea approx from Dragon Mart (depends on tonnage capacity – recommended car weight x2)
– jacking board AED10 from any carpenter shop or wood scrapyard (min thickness 1inch, 6inch square)
– flag/fishing rod on suction lifter assembly AED50 from Dragon Mart (contact Sahmed if required)Intermediate:
– all of the above
– air compressor AED250

Preparing for the Trip:– make sure that your car is in a well maintained condition, especially for the level of difficulty posted for the trip. Please pay adequate attention to:
o Any recent heating / performance issues
o Any worn out tyre(s), incl. Spare tyre
o Long overdue service / oil change
o 4wd features – high range, low range working fine
o Overall condition of the car, including proper recovery points – front and rear– all basic safety and recovery gear is on board:
o rated tow rope – adequate for 1.5 times of your car’s all-up weight
o a pair of rated D shackles, soft shackles advisable than the mettle ones
o a pair of gloves
o Tyre pressure gauge
o Shovel
o Wooden plank of 30×30 cm
o Torch with batteries
o Swiss army knife / combination tool
o Masking tape
o Mat
o User manual, tool kit and lift jack
o Walkie-Talkie
o First-Aid kit
o Tie-down rope/bungee cord– Optional gear – try to have as much as possible, MORE the better :
o Auto deflators
o Gloves
o Full tool kit
o Air compressor
o Tyre inflation can
o Tyre repair kit
o WD – 40
o Maps of the area
o GPS– Other preparedness:
o Extra fuel for longer visits. Carrying fuel cans should be mandatory for all trips to Liwa, Wahibas and even Sweihan, if so required by the Trip organisor
o Appropriate clothing and footwear
o Enough food and water
o Camping chair and Folding table
o Restrict number of passengers in your cars to the number of seat belts thereinthere’s no end to this list. you will learn by your (and ofcourse others’ as well)experiences. go on adding weight 😀 to your car as you go along and move the ladder upwards
