a. Thursday night’s camp is about 60 Kms. from the Fuel station at Mizair’a.
b. The Friday Drive is about 120 Kms. of soft / high Dunes.
c. Once we leave the fuel station at Mizair’a on Thursday night, we will not have any access to fuel / provisions till Saturday forenoon when we arrive at Hameem.
d. The fuel requirement thus broadly translates that each one of us should have sufficient fuel equivalent to about 600Kms. of Road Driving, whether it is in the vehicle’s tanks or in jerry cans.
e. The kit requirement has been discussed earlier in this topic, so please go through it & make sure that the kit is complete.
f. We will need to stock up on food & drinks & water for 4 meals till we arrive in Hameem.
g. Water is especially important in the desert, please make sure that there is at least 6 litres of water per person in your vehicle.
h. The weather is very pleasant in UAE currently but desert tempratures tend to drop & the nights may be cold typically between 15-20 C, which means that warm clothing as well as head protection may be required.
i. Thick fog & Condensation is quite common at this time of the year in the desert in the early morning hours so a tent & sleeping bags are mandatory to make sure that each one of us is refreshed & ready for the rigors that the next day may bring. The Meeting point as well as camp co-ordinates are being sent to the Qualifying Drivers, the passengers are requested to co-ordinate with their respective drivers.
November 8, 2011 at 5:04 am #14746Gentlemen,
it looks that the trip is well prepared and it will be a great success for sure. I’m very much looking forward to it.
However I would like to add some additional mandatory equipment for all participants, which is mainly serving to the safety of the trip:- Radio (Walkie/Talkie – UHF standard band. Mainly it is needed to communicate with the members of convoy about proper passing difficult areas, to avoid getting unnecessary stuck or accidents
- Flag Pole – due to the nature of the dunes in Liwa, you need to see the car’s movement in front of you. It is not an attractive decoration to your car, but the important safety tool and precaution, to avoid landing the cars into each other
November 9, 2011 at 1:27 pm #14749Gentlemen,
based on my discussion with Ahmed, I’m placing here the last notes:
Radio Channel will be No. 3 (462.6125MHz)
All those drivers, who are not able to come to departing point on time, are driving on their own. They should reach tarmac point next to the Arada Camping Site with the full tank. In the case there is no mobile operator signal, they must use the radio, to get exact position of the camp, eventually, somebody of the camp can meet them at tarmac, not to risk and drive in the night alone.
Flag pole is a must.
Pls kindly reply to this and confirm that you understand and comply. It is for your safety.
November 9, 2011 at 6:14 pm #14750Excellent points Silvester, Participants may please note these & comply.
As the camp co-ordinates have been provided, it is not essential to drive in a convoy.
The actual camp co-ordinates may differ by a few hundred metres depending on the actual situation on the ground & that is why it is important to tune into channel 3 on the radio, as we are not sure if telecom signals are available in the area.
Each one of us can find our way there, the only point to be noted is that the Convoy will depart the campsite at 0900Hrs. on Friday morning on the start of the drive.quote caprihorse:Gentlemen, based on my discussion with Ahmed, I’m placing here the last notes:
