Nice write up Tushar … Thank you. I am not as skilled as you, but I ll try to describe the second part of the trip:
The second part of the first day was a different taste and different story. We were trapped between two newly build oil construction sites and two highways linking them (which were not on the latest garmin map). The first part of the trip was to find our way through the high, challenging and beautiful dunes, so it was rather a pathfinder trip, well led by Sylvester. We were reading the dunes, discussing the best path and taking the challenge. A very rewarding experience. At sun-set we had to camp at where we were at 🙂 just stop and deploy your tents, next day will be a new story. Among the cars of the second convoy were Sylvester, Kashmir, Thanseer/Sirdhara and myself. Next day we aimed the beautiful Al Sarab Area, just before hameem, on the way to Qasr A Sarab and finished our trip at around 13h00, fueled both tanks and stomachs at Hameem and returned safely, happily, with an amazing two days memories, led first by Ahmed and followed by Sylvester. Great thanks to all for this amazing experience

Thats very talented if you ask me 😉
Thanks for the writeups Tushar and Khalil. Thanks for the lovely pictures decorating our front page Tushar!
Some data for the first day:
We covered 104.74km in 8:43 at an average pace -including (all sorts of) breaks- of 5 minutes per km. We went up for 22km, down for 20.7km and flat for 62km. Highest point was 172m while the lowest point 67m.
I have the route in .gpx format but I cannot uploaded it here for some reason -if anyone is interested just send me a mail.
Amazing trip -many thanks for organizing this.
When do we come back to Liwa??
November 14, 2011 at 7:54 am #14773Another wonderful DRIVE…..!!!
Already the trip reports explained everything but I would like to emphasis one thing related to preparation.
Reach at LIWA evening/night and stay in a hotel/camp. Make sure you have enough sleep before you are going to start the drive. Maximum try to avoid starting early morning from Dubai to join the drive in LIWA. It will affect your performance, calculations and delay the decision making in the desert drive and the consequence will be unpredictable.
Just for eg. 1st day we stop driving at around 05:30 PM and set up the tent, chit chat for some time and we went to sleep around 10:30PM after the dinner. We got up next morning at 06:00 AM, fresh up, prepared break fast and start driving at 08:30 AM. The drive was Exploration drive in LIWA desert and it was challenging. Some places were dead end. Some places we forced to stop the car to check around walk through the sand to determine the condition. Its look like very hard but immediately your leg is buried under the sand up to knee level. Then imagine if it is a 2 or 3 ton vehicle what will happen…!!!??? We could challenge and manage all these situations because all of us were fresh like for a new day.
However we enjoyed the 2nd day drive. It was different experience.
Thanks to Ahmed Bhai and Silvester for the super lead and other members for a great company.
November 14, 2011 at 8:22 am #14776I agree with Thanseer…Liwa is a full 48 hour commitment…
Those of us…including me in the last drive… :ymblushing: who are not able to commit to a 48 hours excursion should refrain from Liwa drives…
It affects performance as well as the convoy discipline so that whatever is planned cannot be accomplished 🙁So yes, some new lessons learnt to be implemented in the next drive.
Completely agree with Tanseer’s statement. Among all the participants for the drive, only 4 teams lived the Liwa experience in full measure. It’s their commitment to the program by camping both the nights, enjoying the full moon lit dunes and pleasant evening chill.
The team had the pleasure of enjoying the music if singing dunes while negotiating one of the largest slip faces in late evening drive and a very challenging drive during the second day on very very soft sand dunes. A special note of appreciation for the recovery skills of Tanseer who had volunteered his services in every situation. His recovery of Mr. Kashmir’s vehicle on the second day was note worthy. Despite the good drive we dearly missed the company of Mr. Ahmed , naveen , anil, saif and many more during the late evening bonfire Mehfil..
Every liwa trip is always special and let’s make most of it, when the opportunity beacons. Many thanks to Mr & mrs Sylvester, Kashmir, Khalil for their wonderful company during the entire trip. A special note of appreciation for Tushar & Tanseer for their company and look forward to posting of next family trip to liwa. :thanks:
All I would like to say It was a wonderful drive with lovely people around. Enjoyed each and every moment of the drive, and offcourse Gazelle glimpse was the bonus. However I missed the 2nd phase of drive due to some personal commitments, but Inshallah next time for sure not goanna let it pass.
Salute to the Ahmed bhai for exceptional lead, Sylvestor for Team management, Thanseer and Ali for recoveries, Thushar for tremendous photography.
Thanks to Kashmir Singh ji, Satwinder, Sam, Sridhara, thanks to everyone.
November 15, 2011 at 2:50 pm #14783Khalil, Could you please upload the video if it is ready… Thanks
November 16, 2011 at 3:40 am #14784I would like to thank to all participants on this another successful trip in history of Dubai Offroaders. I was delighted to have supportive and enthusiastic team players in the convoy. Everybody did his great job in evaluating the terrain, climbing, cresting and not leaving other members in behind. The team spirit is right in the place. LIWA desert showed us again, that it needed to be treated in the high respect, to not underestimate any single sign of potential danger.
I hope you’ll allow me to join you on another such respectful trips.quote Desert King:Khalil, Could you please upload the video if it is ready… ThanksI will certainly do so, But it s not ready yet as i m currently out of the country. Had to fly the following day for business. As soon as I get back I ll work on the editing and share it with the group
Cheers
Khalil
