Still few names are missing…
The Ministry of Labour has announced today that Thursday, February 17, 2011 will be a holiday for the private sector, marking the Prophet Muhammed’s birthday.
Today’s announcement comes a week after last week’s Ministry notice saying that all governmental departments, federal ministries and schools would be closed on February 17.
According to the Islamic calendar, the Prophet’s birthday actually falls on 12th Rabi ul Awwal, which coincides with Tuesday, February 15. However, since this falls between the working week, the Ministry issued the notice to move the holiday forward, making it a long-weekend for both the public and private sectors.
In effect, all employees in the UAE will be off on Thursday, February 17.

Please carry sufficient food for 1st day’s Lunch and Evening Barbecue for self and Companions.
Please carry at least 3-4 litres of water for each occupant in your car.
Please carry at least 4 bundles of wood for the evening Barbecue.
Please carry proper tents and sleeping bags etc. for the camping as it is going to be very cold and perhaps wet too, due to the dew which is a common phenomenon at this time of the year in the desert.
Please make all arrangements a day before as we will not get any facility to pick up food once we start from the meeting point.
Please be punctual at the meeting point as the convoy will leave at the designated time as it is not fair or justified to hold up all the participants who arrived on time for a late comer.

Meeting Time: 6.45 am the convoy will depart at SHARP 7.00 am on 17th Feb 2011.Total Driving distance will be 900 km approx. from Dubai.
Please make sure that your Vehicle is mechanically sound, check all fluid levels & spare tyre.
We shall drive on tarmac for around two hours and then make a refuelling stop at car museum(A MUST FOR EVERY ONE).Vehicles having small fuel tanks kindly carry some extra fuel in cans.
We will deflate approx 10 kms after the white sands on Hameem Road,and enter the desert at around 10.00 am.
We shall drive till 12.30 pm and then stop for the Lunch , we need to carry the lunch.
This is a very Scenic Area with lots of Tall majestic Dunes and is part of the circuit of Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge and totally isolated and unspoilt by civilization.
There are a number of Gazelle Reserves and feeding areas along the way so we might be able to spot some gazelles…
Keep your binoculars and Cameras ready!!!
The camp has to be set up before sunset in order for everybody to have a nice relaxed evening.
PLEASE CARRY BARBECUE ITEMS MEAT, FOOD, CHARCOAL ETC. FOR SELF AND YOUR PASSENGERS.EACH CAR HAS TO CONTRIBUTE AT LEAST FOUR BUNDLES OF WOOD FOR THE COMMUNAL BONFIRE SO PLEASE CARRY THE WOOD AS WELL.
Expected temperature at night is 15 to 20 Degree, hence please carry enough warm clothes and sleeping bags etc.
Morning wake up whistle will be blown at 6.30 am sharp and after that we will go to Hameem for toilets usage and breakfast.(7.30 am max) We shall revert back and break camp as there will be heavy dew so we will have to wait till the tents etc. dry up.
Max by 9.30 am we shall start our Day 2 drive which again will be a very nice and scenic route comprising of some challanging dunes and massive slip faces.
We will target to be back on tarmac by 1430Hrs. max, inflate and drive back towards Dubai making a lunch stop at an ADNOC along the way.
We expect to be back in Dubai by 1800Hrs. on 18th of Feb. 2011
Please do the arrangement for the food for yourself and your co passenger/s.
All participating members are required to carry basic recovery kit. Please remember NO KIT – NO TRIP
Vinu won’t be there !

actually Vinu is on a trip to india. not sure if he will make it back by Wed or Thu. Most likely that he will also not make the trip since we preponed it to Thu.

myself and paran would like to join and had registered in the first place as passengers. but we would love to drive and have 2 options. either we bring the pajero which we have not tried on road for long distance or alternatively we bring our fortuner which is 2.7 liter. if this is o.k. then we dont mind driving or else we would come as passengers.

The Pajero is a 3 Litre?
The 2.7 Litre Prado in the right hands is an awesome machine,
I believe that the equipment be it a car or a piece of machinery or a weapon is only as capable as the prrson using it, in best of circumstances it’s contribution will be 20%-30% only the balanceis upto us!!!
