Trip was good and we enjoyed the drive…but i felt some where that people should know some specific Indian regional language to enjoy more or otherwise they should be keep quite….. or be in their own self or to come along with their own group of friends.

But as an member i would like to say thanks to all who made this event extraordinary in my life……Thanks.

Sorry Rahul, I strongly disagree to one of your points.
I can very proudly state that we at DO are not separated by common society barriers of Language, Religion, Nationality, Gender, Caste etc.. We all are part of one family – DO Family in the community of Offroaders.
Its upto us, how do we accept others and get involved with them in a group. I am sure Mr.Musbah and Mr.Ryan will agree with me, as they mingled with the whole group very quickly and had good fun too. Thanks Musbah and Ryan :thanks:

I agree with Kumar in this Part…

I think if you can remember, even our funniest part… all of us were used English Language as a common language so everybody could enjoy…. There is NO SEPARATION in DO Family.

Awesome drive!!! Challenging Terrain, Amazing Leadership, Excellent Climate and Great Team…. what else can be a better combination :ymblushing: :-BD
Ahmad Bhai & family, Thanseer, Harry Moses, Firoz & family, Ryan, Ali & friends, Musbah & family, Julian Roberts, Sridhara, Rahul, Ashok & friends, Ganesh & myself were the convoy ๐Ÿ™‚ We have been discussing about Liwa trip since a long time, but no idea how come many of our serious offroaders including seniors were missing to explore the majestic sands and dune of Liwa ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Appreciates the enthusiasm of few rookie offroaders – Harry, Julian, Ryan and Ali who were daring and confident enough to join us for exploring mother of all deserts :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Rob, you are an exception to the above. We are sorry for you, not being able to join us due to electrical issues of the car. We indeed missed our one and only winchman :(( We appreciate your concern about us, checking frequently over phone how are we doing :ymapplause: :ymhug:

Hats off to you Ahmed Bhai for your courage and confidence to keep this drive open to all and to take a fewbee convoy to such a challenging and risky terrain ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ No doubts, it is your leadership and the convoy support by Thanseer at second lead made this trip so enjoyable to all :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

We started rolling from the official meeting point (Emarat Petrol Station, Jebel Ali) at 8am to Emirates National Auto Museum at E65 road to Liwa Oasis. (Car Museum). Very soon, we had the chance to enjoy heavy rain at 140 KMPH – awesome and rare experience ;;) ๐Ÿ™‚ The convoy was complete when Firoz and Julian Roberts joined at ADNOC, Mafraq and Thanseer at Car Muesum. Everybody topped up fuel at car museum and headed to the deflation point which was 76 KMS further from car museum, with 27 KMS track, left from Al Fathiya on E65. On reaching the deflation point, we noticed that Ryan was missing from the convoy, who was the last car ๐Ÿ™ We contacted him over phone and realized that he was still flying in E65 and missed us completely at the left turn from Al Fathiya. Hey we are DO’s and hence we can’t leave anybody alone :-BD We tried to direct Ryan to the deflation point by GPS coordinates and over phone. Since it looked confusing to Ryan, I decided to drive back 27KMS to the tarmac to pickup him and Ganesh offered a shotgun ride, to make sure I am also not lost.. ๐Ÿ™‚

We brought Ryan to the deflation point and the drive started after briefing by Ahmed Bhai. It was not going to be an easy task due to the rain and tricky terrain of Liwa. Therefore Firoz and Sridhar were deputed at middle positions in the convoy to support the drive momentum and the lead asked to form a sweep team for rescue & recovery with we 3 musketeers Ashok, Ganesh and myself – 2 heavy duties and 1 light duty ๐Ÿ˜€

The drive started in the wet Liwa sands and the initial stretch was an easy warm up phase. Though the sand was wet, we could feel the softness underneath as the wheels were losing traction and sinking at many patches. Once the convoy hit the dunes, we started feeling the heat at sweep despite the climate being very cool and drizzling. Stuck after stuck, repeated stucks, all types of stucks :)) cresting, sideways, bowls, sunk in plan surface, nose down etc etc… Indeed it was a huge task at recovery to handle all those safely, in soft sands and getting wet in the drizzle. Special thanks to Ashok and Ganesh for putting in all their expertise and experience for executing the task so safely :-BD Thanks to Ryan for sparing his winch, which simplified our effort on couple of cases :thanks: Thanks to Mujeeb (Ashok’s – shotgun rider) who was seen on sands all the time with a rope and few shackles ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

To be frank, most of such struck were just due to not maintaining enough gap between cars, due to getting scared and wrong tire pressures because of faulty gauges. We had the task to explain how did it happen to the drivers to learn from the mistakes and to avoid it further. I believe those struggled at the beginning were brilliant enough to understand their mistakes since the drive momentum thereafter was marvelous. Also seeing the difficulty of the convoy to cop up with the challenge, the lead summoned all drivers again for a short briefing and later mellowed down the difficulty level. We at sweep had a lovely time after that :ymblushing: and had few “happy minutes” breaks in between at frequent intervals to charge up and were flying across the dunes to join the moving convoy. We did had couple of tasks again but were relatively simple, not affecting the drive momentum.

Ali’s jeep broke down in the afternoon with a twisted and broken axle ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Its again a jeep thing ๐Ÿ˜‰ Jeepers, excuse me ๐Ÿ˜€ As the car lost its 4 wheel drive, we directed him to the nearest road via tracks and the drive continued exploring tall dunes at a very good pace. We reached the spot where a car got burned during the last GNFD – Jan.12. Inspected the burned remains, made some assumption took some pictures and again continued the exploration.

By dusk, we decided to end first day’s exploration and identified an awesome camping spot. The camping site was surrounded by tall sand dunes, blocking the cold desert breeze. Tents were set up very quickly and soon the camp site was very lively with the light & music treat from Dada, full fledged restaurant with all options by Ashok & Co, variety cuisine treat by Rahul, bonfire by Sridhar and a wonderful 2 bedroom private tent by Musbah :ymblushing: :ymapplause: I was too lazy to pull out my well packed tent and decided to spend the night with my camel ๐Ÿ˜‰ Never felt tired through out the drive but started feeling the after effects of the day once the drive was stopped ๐Ÿ˜€

Enjoyed the variety of foods from the new restaurant and thanks to the chief chef Ashok :thanks: Very detailed planning, well equipped and it seems they had a plan not for a single night but for a whole week :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: We did had another great offer of Soup, Pulav and boiled eggs from Rahul. Thank you Rahul for your kind hospitality :thanks: After a nice eat and drink session, entertainments commenced. We all had nice laugh for an hour with an exclusive entertainment session hosted by Hari (Ashok’s friend) acting as an inebriated. Also we had a bonfire dance and few songs as well. Its one of my most memorable camping nights – nice company, everybody was so happy, good food, lively atmosphere, great location and awesome climate :ymblushing: :ymblushing: :ymblushing:

At night we gave ourselves a physical challenge to climb the tall soft dune. It was an “effort” to reach the top. But it was worth climbing for the awesome night view of the vast empty desert in bright moon light with our campsite steep down under us. We were sad for not having a camera with us. From the top we tempted Thanseer to follow our track to the top and we succeeded in making him reach the top with his camera, so effortlessly like his Pajero :)) :)) :)) Spend some time in the cold sands on top of the dune, had strong cold desert breeze for a while and then slid down to the camp site. 1st days activities reached its good end with a sound sleep.

Second day was sunny and the drive was truly awesome ๐Ÿ™‚ Great improvement by all who had hiccups on the previous day :ymapplause: Everybody executed few ridge cutting and steep drops very comfortably & safely :-BD though the sweep team had enough tasks to be busy through out the drive – couple of pulls, snatch strap broke, flat tyre and one manual push to FJ from a very high crest ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

Few cars were running out of fuel. Those who had spare petrol cans, shared fuel and we finally hit the tarmac by around 1.30pm near to Hameem. Went to ADNOC Hameem, filled petrol, inflated and together had a heavy lunch at Hameem. We all were taken by surprise when we went to the cash counter with our valets to settle the charges ๐Ÿ˜ฎ The bill was already settled by Musbah ๐Ÿ˜€ Thanks Musbah for this treat and hospitality :thanks:

Started to home from Hameem by around 3pm braving the speed cameras at 160 KMPH – double of the permitted speed limit ๐Ÿ˜€ Later observed that all those cameras were shot or burned! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Believe this was the recent article in GN that a local got angry with the cameras and went on a shooting spree of all cameras installed on the road ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Went straight to a washing station in Ajman, paid sincere thanks to my camel with a full water & steam wash and joined family to share the memorable Liwa experience ๐Ÿ™‚

We joined the convoy from Abu Dhabi, with excited kids at the back seat eager to spread out their new tent. \:D/ :YMDAYDREAM:
The first dayโ€™s drive was slow #-o with few of the new DO entrants learning :-B to discipline their camels.. The timely re-briefing by our lead marshal B-) surely encouraged the confidence of the team and boosted capabilities :YMAPPLAUSE: :YMAPPLAUSE: :thanks: . Once the starting trouble was dealt with, everything was well. Great lead, excellent company and the very favorable weather made the drive and camp one of the best we have ever had. :drive: :-BD

We all enjoyed the night stay and cool breeze and warmth around the camp fire. Hari was very entertaining :)) , and my daughter particularly like the โ€œRing-a-rosesโ€ round the bon fire.. :ymparty: My young kids made friends and played all evening, age not being a barrier to enjoy such a wonderful evening. :O) M/ :-BD

:thanks: Ahmed Bhai for the great lead, good planning :ymapplause: :ymapplause: and lovely camping spot, Alhamdulillah โ€“ the wonderful weather made it perfect. My wife wants to thank Lubna :thanks: for remembering the little ones who were quite hungry ๐Ÿ˜ in the morning.

:thanks: Ashok, Mujeeb and Hari for making the bon fire lively, 8-} :ymparty: =)) and cooking for all

:thanks: Ganesh for your well-prepared additions to dinner and morning ~O) parathas (Kerala parotta)

:thanks: Sridhar and son for their wonderful company and smokeless oakwood bon fire :ymcowboy:

:thanks: Rahul for inspiring our entertainer to do the small talk in โ€œnew languageโ€ that we particularly enjoyed, and still wonder, ๐Ÿ˜• was it Afrikaaans? :ymsmug:

:thanks: Ryan for good company, high spirits, but we missed a pinch of the lovely looking meat you grilled =p~ , may be next time ๐Ÿ˜‰ It was great to have you with us. As you mentioned the DO family culture and enjoyed participating in family time :YMPARTY: we look forward to see you and family in our gatherings and trips :ymhug:

:thanks: Musbah for the wonderful company and hope to see you more often in our drives. It was very kind of your wife to have supplied timely snacks for the children when we ran out of all food supplies :-s :-s on the second day.
On behalf of the whole team, we thank you for the lunch treat. Being seated near the cashier and the last ones to leave the restaurant, we saw all batches of the Liwa team who came to pay their bills and were surprised ๐Ÿ˜ฎ when told that itโ€™s already been paid. As remarked by Tanseer ji and Kumar, we have got another caring Abdulla. We are thankful and humbled :ymblushing: by your Arabian hospitality. :thanks: :ymhug: :thanks:

:thanks: Harry, Julian and friends for joining us and welcome you to the DO family.

:thanks: Tanseer ji for the wonderful second lead. Many-a-times the apt alternative routes truly supported our lead marshal and kept the convoy moving. We enjoyed your company and thank you for the nice photographs. We appreciate the extra snaps that came out well in spite of running out of film rolls ๐Ÿ˜‰

:thanks: Kumar ji for the wonderful job in making sure everyone in the convoy kept their wheels rolling. :drive: We particularly applaud your smiling face even after tiresome recoveries. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:
Ganesh, Sridhar, Ashok and friends too deserve appreciation for their support roles. :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

And finally :thanks: to all DOs who planned this great trip. We missed some of our experienced marshals and friends. Yet this was one of the best trips we had. Looking forward for the next Liwa trip in February, as promised by Ahmed Bhai..

We’ll miss two weeks of fun ๐Ÿ™ when we fly to our home country this Thursday

    December 2, 2012 at 3:23 pm #20585

Thanks Firoz and Ganesh for reminding few topics which I missed to mention in the trip report :thanks: Appended the breakfast treat and Musbah’s surprise to the trip report. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    December 2, 2012 at 3:47 pm #20587

    One of the funniest and most enjoyed LIWA drive…. :)) :)) :)) =)) =)) =))

Our Trip reporters nothing left for me to write…. Everything they covered. But I have something…….

:thanks: Musbah for the company and 2nd day’s lunch treat.

Thanks Kumar and Thunseer for your wonderful statement that reflects the Club Policy and I would like to tell Rahul that I was shocked when I read his message but after 10 minutes I convinced myself that I am sure Rahul didn’t mean what he wrote therefore I have deleted the draft reply and defused the reaction button, meanwhile I was sure that the club seniors will not let it go without a solid statement standing against discrimination. Once again thanks for all DO members and wishing the club a very prosperous events down the road.
