Hey all,
I thought I’d start making some contributions to the site other than just joining in the drives. Thanks also goes to Mahaan who introduced me to this app.
I know most of our members have got some form of a chartplotting GPS hooked up in their cars. But for those that dont, and who already have their money spent on Iphones/Ipad (with GPS) here is a possible alternative I plan on testing at our next drive.
For all of you who have iOS devices (Iphone 3G,3GS,4 & Ipad 3G) I’d like to introduce you’ll to MotionX.
Here are excerpts from the site:
Here are some of the features off the MotionX site:
* See your position and tracks anywhere in the world on fast live MotionX open topographic and road maps.
* Course-up and direction-up maps
* Google and Bing Road, Satellite and Hybrid maps.
* Total of nine map choices, no other app offers a bigger selection!MAP STORAGE ONBOARD!
* MotionX maps can be cached for offline access and lightning fast rendering!
* Downloading and storing maps for offline access is faster and easier than ever.

* Use the MotionX TapTap® tool for easy waypoint creation.
* Post your waypoints directly to Facebook or Twitter, or email them to share using Google Maps and Google Earth.
* View coordinates in UTM, MGRS, DMS, DM, or D format.101 TRACKS!

Technology can improve life & in many cases save lives, as well!!!
on the other hand the simplification of technology makes many of us techies redundant!!!
That iPhone/ BB/ Android in your pocket or bag may be smarter than you or I :-w :-w :-wHi there,
Yes, the app above allows you to predownload the maps of the area that you are going to navigate in through your wifi connection. (only catch is you should have a general idea about where youre going for the trip) and then once youre in that area, the terrain maps come up for it as they are stored in the device.
Mind you the application above is not meant to be a street navigation tool (roads etc) for that you can get TomTom or Navigon (Middle East editions).
Both come with Maps preloaded. Tom Tom was my preference between these two.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Thanks Brian,
So what I understand is that I need to load up maps of a particular area meaning I cant add maps of the whole of UAE etc. I tried the tomtom last year and for that I had to jailbreak my phone. However then I had certain issues and I reverted back to the original iphone s/w.Hi All,
Here is a link to sample track I recorded and posted to my Facebook page:
Since this was a drive to work on normal streets, it’s going to be filled with a lot of straight lines.
The software represents the trace on Google Maps and youre able to view it in Street / Terrain and Hybrib form.
Cant wait to get this in the mud . . .
