thanks,Hello TJ,
If you still decide to give your car a test run in the sand, just ensure you have the basic requirements for offroad driving with DO. Basic requirements include a compatible Walkie Talkie (Radio which you can set channel frequencies on), a flag pole with flag, a good air compressor to re-inflate your tires after the drive, and tow hooks on your vehicle incase you require assistance. Last but not least, do not forget to register for the drive ๐
Cheers
Sam.July 21, 2016 at 8:11 am #36197Hi,
I just got registered in this group and really exited. I had participated twice in Gulf News Fund Drive and used my Prado 4L. Three weeks back i bought a new Rubicon Unlimited. Please let me know, if i can join this trip?I have all other off road stuff except for Radio which seems a mandatory item for this group. I had seen information on this in this group and i shall buy one from the Dragon Mart, Further, my jeep has navigation system. should i also need to buy a separate GPS which is off road compatible? if yes, please suggest a model.
Please advise.

Hi Sureshmenon,
Welcome to the group. This trip is for all levels, so your most welcome to join as long as you have all the basis required equipments.
For now you will not need a GPS as you will drive in a convoy, which will be lead by a experienced Marshal who will be planning the route for you.
If your planning to buy a radio today please make sure you learn to program the frequency before you come for the trip. However you might find people having same radio who can help you, but its good if you do it in advance to avoid problems later. Follow this link to get the list of DO frequencies http://www.dubaioffroadlive.local/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1454quote sureshmenon:Hi,

Hello and welcome to DO,
If your Rubicon is relatively new, and depending on the mileage (not less than 2000 Kms) you have done in the past 3 weeks, and whether or not you have done the first service after new, I would recommend either not to take it offroad yet, or if you decide to, make sure you take it easy on the car during the drive, allowing everything to fall in place. If you do register for the drive, seek assistance and advice from Marshals at the meeting point, and don’t be disappointed if advised not to join, which would be strictly a decision you need to consider for the benefit of your car since it is new, yet the final decision would always be yours to take.
Having said that, you can always join with your Prado :p
Cheers
Sam.:thanks: :thanks: @DuncanField and other members. it was a gud drive.
Just wow! It was my honor to dive with @DuncanField O:-) . What a great drive it was :ymparty: . We started gradually and increased the pace when everyone was comfortable. Very few second attempts and recoveries. It was amazing to see @Fadi drive @Vipin Land Cruiser out of that small bowl and then seeing him flying on those ridges at Super Bowl.
Today I got to know what my truck is capable of ๐ , learned a few lessons and got to know how it is to drive with full passengers :ymsmug: . Actually I was overjoyed with the fact of driving with Duncan :-B and thank you for recovering me at the end of the drive #:-s
Again it was my pleasure and looking forward for the Next drive!
Thanks for leading the convoy safely.
It sounds like Duncan’s drive was fantastic!!!! :drive: Looking forward to the next one \M/
The newbie drive was quite interesting too. We had a small convoy of about 8 cars. Sam did an awesome job of leading us through the tight, ascending/descending technical dunes of the Badayer area. :thanks: We had no first-timers in the convoy so we were able to amp up the level to fewbee :ymapplause: for most of the afternoon and it was a great pleasure to see all of the drivers do such a great job tackling all that came our way. :ymapplause:
Sebastien did great as the second lead throughout the convoy; your skills are growing each drive! :ymparty:
Aditya was out with us for the first time and only his 3rd time in the sand but he handled his Patrol very well throughout the challenging terrain. :ymapplause:
Rob in his F150 did a great job to help out and assist with a few recoveries; thanks for that!! :thanks:
Ryan, Bernard, Geoff, all did great today and drove extremely well. I think each of you experienced a great day and progressed a lot so hat off to all of you. :ymparty: :ymapplause:
Thanks again to Sam for the great lead and looking forward to seeing you all out on the sand again!! :thanks: :drive:
