Thanks for the nice write-up of the intermediate/advanced convoy Phil :thanks: . We could see you guys trailing up the mountains as you weave your way through the dunes right at the beginning. It was a nice sight. :yesss:

The newbie drive had about 11 or 12 vehicles in the convoy with 3 or 4 of those being first-timers 😮 . It was a great afternoon and the drive gave us a varied adventure. Ahmad was our Marshal who did a fantastic of gauging the comfort of the convoy at the outset then upping the level from time to time to really give the newbies and first-timers the chance to test their mettle :ymapplause: . Faheem and Avinash did a fantastic job of coaching and guiding the convoy in and out of tricky situations as the Sweepers :thanks: . Always keeping their calm and cool voice over the radio, “turn wheels left…turn wheels right…., back up slowly and straight down, no don’t turn your wheels, come straight down,” etc. The drive saw us cover quite a bit of terrain, which varied from small, steep, technical dunes, to long flat stretches where we could hit speeds of 70+ kph. We crossed a couple of roads including one busy one which had safari guys blazing past us. On the other side of the road we came across a safari camp or two, which had the usual quad bikers, camel riders, and whiley safari driver racing somewhat in a controlled manner around the dunes and our convoy :ymtongue: . From the safari camp we continued on as the sun began to set. We ended up driving through a few neighborhoods on and off the pavement and sand until we ended up at the Al Awir Shops for our finish. Everyone made it safe and sound with minimal damage. Everyone filled up, had a cup of chai or two, shook hands and drove off reminiscing of all the up and downs through the dunes with sand flying high and counting the days until the next drive!! :ymparty: :o)
