    January 24, 2013 at 12:54 pm #22458

My thanks goes out to all who got out of bed early this morning’s drive.

A great lead and a special thanks Ganesh for letting me sit at the front of the class today, it forced me to think a little more about what to do. Albeit the drive may have run over time but I enjoyed it, I made a few silly mistakes but please to say that I kept all 4 wheel moving under their own steam – no digging or tows, it was plain sailing #:-s

Thanks to the Sweeps Zarir & Aemi, I could hear all the radio chatter and it sounded like they were well put to work today. :ymapplause:

Hope to see you all again soon.

What else can one pray for other than having a turn up of 24 cars in your 1st ever lead drive in Dubai Offroaders !!!!!!!!!

Thank you all for coming for this drive and I was really happy to see many more new faces in our club…..The report of the drive has already reached the 10th page in the post :)) :)) :)) ….

I had specially selected this route as I had been tested once by our senior marshals earlier some time back and the comments I had received is I need some more practice as a lead and after then it was always in my mind, when I start my 1st lead drive it will be from Khatam….It was a nice feeling to see everyone reaching on time inspite of the long and new route for many of the drivers….

We met at Khatam as planned at 8.am and we had a nice briefing from myself and Saif and the convoy was divided into two with 12 cars each….i was leading the newbee convoy with some excellent support and help at the sweep by Zarir and Sayedbhai and Saif led the Fewbee convoy with the dashing Humayun at sweep……. Both the convoys were communicating on Channel 4 on the radio….

Last Friday I saw David driving his Armada with ease and discipline, I decided to make him the second car of the convoy followed by Roshan who had struggled a bit in his last drive and I wanted to boost up his confidence in being the third car to maintain the pace and momentum….and I should really appreciate both of of them for their excellent performance….David and Roshan were always with me at every point waiting for the others join and it was indeed commendable….Gr8 work guys…keep it up… :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

I had made the route plan in such a way that every driver gets to know the various famous waypoints right from Sharjah bisecting the desert to reach Dubai….Khatam – Fossil rock – Camel Rock – Faya – Big Fall – Pink Rock – Tawi…..The entire drive was approx. 62 kms and was covered in nearly 4.5 hours time….

At Fossil rock we had the first stuck by our new member Eisa with his Tahoe….Bumper of the big cars are never meant for the sand….so we removed it and then our Sweep-in-charge gave some very useful tips to all the drivers about dune approach and safe halting….Then we proceeded to Camel Rock and Eisa was finding a bit tough to use his car for the first time in sand…..Eisa..no worries brother…u did very well as the first time to climb each and every dune inspite of all the stucks you had and you never gave up…thats the spirit my friend and you need an :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause: for it….Keepo driving with us and you will gain more and more confidence….

At Camel rock we got to see our other group – Fewbee and they were marching away from the point….We all reached on top of the camel rock area and had a nice picture (posted on facebook page)…..Then the plan was to reach Al Faya….

As we had many newbees in our convoy I didnt want them to damage their car in struggling themselves to make their attempts to reach on top of Al Faya dune….so the plan was to take them from the other side to the bottom ofthe dune….Saif and his team reached on top with ease and Humayun was waiting for me to take a nice picture of their convoy from down….Sorry Humayun couldnt fulfill your wish as we had to spend some time in rescuing cars and trying to make a safe route for them to reach the point….Tariq was unable to climb a dune with his 2.7L Prado and so I had to take 3 cars to the tarmac via tracks. Once they were safely guided to the road, I went back to get the other 8 cars to the same point….Thanks to Sayedbhai for helping me to get the other cars to reach me and get everyone out of the desert….

Since it was already 11.30, we gave an option to those who want to leave, as I think Ole had to reach Dubai back for work, so 3 cars – Ole, Minaz and Eisa decided to leave and I hope they all had a wonderful experience with us….You guys really drove well.. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Then we all 9 cars headed to the next point “The Big Fall” as I wanted our newbees to experience the fall….and I think everyone enjoyed it….Then we took the tracks to reach the other side of the road and I decided to take the convoy to Pink rock from the backside and then via the dunes to reach Tawi…..

I know the entire route was a big lengthy one but I also believe that everyone experienced a very good morning drive….Saif and his team reached Tawi by 12.30 and they all left ….We reached tawi at 01.15 p.m….inflated the tyres and left for home….

I would really like to give my Special Thanks to Zarir and Sayedbhai ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ for the excellent sweep work holding out their patience and providing their expert advise to all the particiapants…. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

Thank you David, Roshan, Denis, Eisa, Razik, Tariq, Ole, Imran and Minaz for your participation and I hope my 1st ever lead as a Marshal had made you day to enjoy the fullest….Please put in your comments and suggestion as these would defenitely help me in future lead drives in Dubai Offroaders Club…..

See you all for another thrilling drive soon…till then please take care of yourself…. 🙂 :-BD

    Cheers…

Today was the day i understood a person who always keeps low profile (Saif Khan) in all the drives can perform when the need arises or is this what called experience…. @-) @-) @-) @-)

The convoy kicked off well to fossil rock, camel rock and then reached top of saddle point without any intricacies.

When there are a small meeting on top of saddle point with the drivers exiting here itself based on voting option, it was not even a single vote out of 10members for exiting at faya…That was the kind of drive effect on the members..

It was an amazing drive :drive: :drive: :drive: to few bees with right combination of tracks, dunes, side slope and crest crossing….

Thanks to all members for your cooperation and for the excellent lead by our Fauji.. :ymapplause: :ymapplause: :ymapplause:

    Eagerly look forward to the next drive…. :-w :-w :-w :-w

Thanks for waiting for me in the morning! Great drive!

Hi Guys by which I mean Sirs Ganesh, Saif, Humayun, Zarir and Sayedbhai.

I have a small observation on which I would appreciate your comments.

Communications between us is essential for the good management and thus Fun experienced by us all. On this drive the comms channel chosen (4) was occupied by all 24 cars, which made it a tad crowded at times :-\ perhaps it would be a good idea in situations of 2 convoys if each lead Marshal were to choose a separate channel, one for each convoy.

Understandably the Marshall’s might feel more comfortable if they were in touch with each other, to offer assistance in extreme cases for example. To facilitate this maybe a second radio for the lead Marshall might be a good investment. Obviously that would mean further investment for each of the individuals concerned, to fund this perhaps a 1 off voluntary contribution from members might be considered. If 4 radios were needed then that is currently around 850AED (discount unconsidered) say a 5/10 AED voluntary contribution from the membership and it’s done, that is roughly the cost of 1 inflation charge!

Maybe you’ve already had this discussion between Marshall’s, maybe there are other solutions or observations, that is wonderful, community is about sharing and growing/functioning together.
    :thanks: Enjoy the :drive:
